"Brock is only as good as the players around him."

Ok....well get good players around him then. That's literally what the GM's job is.

I agree with Kyle on this one. Brock did have three guys there, definitely was an option, hindsight always 20/20. I sure as heck hope that they dnt try to coach the aggressiveness out of Brock, at the same time, he does try to do too much..so that may have sounded like I made a contradiction there. It is just when to use it I guess. Should he have taken the check down there? Probably but if JJ got it, then it would be another conversation entirely. Sometimes s**t happens, it's football. But yeah, it probably would have been better to hit one of the three. It's about balance..when to use that aggressiveness and when to just take what the defense gives ya. Brock doesn't have to sparkle and shine on every pass. Just get the yards.

This analysis is great. Did not see this on the live broadcast.

That being said, SP did get lucky a few times js..but a joke? lolol

These threads are hilarious this week.

Never in the history of the game has a QB had as much success in the first 6 seasons than Mahomes has had. He isnt overrated in the slightest bit.

But to sum up this year - the 49'ers were not good and Brock was not that good. I can't remember feeling such a lack of faith that we just cannot score. Everything was such a struggle.

When I think about Brock this past few years, I remember a lot of bad games he had when he was just so bad.

Last year I remember his struggles at Cleveland, home against Cincinnati and home against Baltimore. He was bailed out at home in the playoffs against Green Bay and Detroit by bad turnovers by the other team and bad coaching by Campbell.

Then in the Super Bowl he had so many missed opportunities of not getting any points. And when he won the coin toss in overtime, his face lit up as he was so excited to ask for the ball first. I have never played football but even I knew the overtime rules were college football and Brock I know played college football and should have known you want the ball second after you know what the other team does first.

And then this year has obviously been a disaster for Brock.

Brock does a lot of good things but he is not elite and should be paid accordingly.

Everyone knows the top five, $60M/year QB's don't have any bad games.

When I hear $60m I think Josh A and PM. There should not be a single QB in the league making this or more. Brock is not this.

If someone said I was getting a raise from $995k to $30m I'd pee my pants. I like Brock a lot. I'd like to see him grow over te next two years. And with that he grows into his next contract. The next man up insanity needs to end.

I think his SB wins/games in particular..got lucky, looked average. We could have easily won against him but....sorry, cough, Shanny s**t the bed. That was part of the problem anyway. Not down playing Mahomes' successes as a qb but those trophies really should have been ours. Major fail. We f----d ourselves hard.

People make it sound like every other top QB is working with complete rubbish when most of them are surrounded by talent.

One thing I'll always give Payton is that he knows to construct a killer OL everywhere he goes. He gets by with smaller QB's because he builds up a strong wall on the interior to provide a constant pocket.

If they could find a LG and C that could match Puni, this offense would be at a whole other level. That doesn't require them to use 1st or 2nd rounders on every OL position either. Just have to scout well and make good picks, guys more like Puni and less like Banks who was always a weird choice for this offense.

I think Kyle 'gave the game away' when he said you'd love to see the check down there but the pass protection didn't allow Brock time to see it.

His current contract is irrelevant to what he will get. You can hate the next man up dynamic but it is the reality of the business. Quality QBs are going to get paid and Purdy is a quality QB. He's no Pat or Allen, and those guys will likely get outsized deals in their time. But the Tua/Dak/Lawrence/Herbert/Love tier is where Purdy will get paid, and contract inflation will be built in. No doubt Lynch will have some gymnastics built in so the actual numbers are probably more palatable than the reported APY.

1. I hope both sides can meet in the middle on a deal that is fair to both sides

2. I hope if the 49ers make a big investment in Purdy, they do a lot more to prioritize the OL and protect their new investment. Rather than chasing overpriced free agents, I hope they put in more effort and resources to develop an OL pipeline like Green Bay and Pittsburgh have had going for years.

I agree with this, Purdy's size as well as the offensive concepts Shanny flashed at the beginning of the season require an improved OL, especially the interior. C will be priority and Trent's situation could dictate an investment at LT depending on how Moore closes out the year.

This. Puni was a great pick, hopefully, they can scout well like you said and really invest in the OL. Just kind of also to
reiterate what Young was saying, pay Brock but make sure we have money left over to get that help around him too. I don't see Brock demanding a crazy Prescott-like deal, I think BP would want to have the best team to win the SB. That competitor in him I think will wanna do that..over demanding every dollar he can get.

If you're better at your job than someone else, you're happy with making less than that someone else?

its just human nature to want more.. especially if you know you deserve it.

this might be his only shot at a huge contract, gotta go big. We all would
