your whole debate is based around one of the worst stats for a QB.
Again yards per attempt does not factor in YAC. Brock throws CMC a screen that goes for 30 yards. it's a 30 yard pass and inflates his Y/A. If you were an expert you'd know that.
You want to use stats, look at his IAY in 2023 which was 8.2 yards, which was 6th overall and tied with Desmond Ritter and Trevor Lawrence.
On please explain to me how condensed splits work and how that doesn't lead to him having favorable matchups downfield lol.
I didn't love Lance, I didn't want Mac Jones. I wanted fields and I wanted to see Lance actually get meaningful playing time and develop. I bet you loved Tim Tebow.
In one ear, out the other.
Brock has had an injury since the Vikings game, and it's only gotten worse since then. This is noticeable to anybody who actually watches things and knows how to think. Compare the way the ball came out of his hand vs. the Jets to how it has come out since then. Against the Jets, he was throwing tight spirals with good revs. Since the Chiefs game in particular, he has been throwing wobblers.
Against the Patriots, he was still able to throw 50 yards in the air to Screenbo without having to exert too much effort. Against the Bears, he only managed to get it 40 yards to Jennings (significantly underthrown despite the completion) despite putting everything he had in the throw.
In 2023, every Brock deep miss was OVERTHROWN. This year, every miss, except for a slightly overthrown ball to Aiyuk vs. the Rams, has been underthrown.
Calling yards per attempt "one of the worst stats for a QB" is laughable. It's literally the best stat for a QB. You can't evaluate QBs solely based on stats, anyway, since stats just aren't reliable in football, but it's the top stat you look at to get a sense of how a QB is performing.
You start with the team's points to see if a QB even qualifies for having played well. Stat Paddy doesn't even qualify since the Chiefs have had average scoring the last 2 seasons.
Brock doesn't qualify THIS season (because he's been injured), but he sure as s**t did last year.
Then you go to yards per attempt (actually, net yards per attempt is better, since it factors in sacks and sack yards), then look at the QB's yards (or net yards) to make sure the yards per attempt corresponds to enough actual production. Then you look at turnovers, since those affect the defense.
I'm sure you think Blake Bortles was great in 2015, though. 4400 yards and 35 TDs.
Brock was 2nd in air yards per completion last year, so the "YAC" (it should be RAC, YAC is supposed to be yards after contact) is a meaningless argument. Also, you don't just automatically discount the QB's role in generating RAC. In Stat Paddy's case, you do, since he gets it from throwing screens, but in Brock's case, he was hitting guys perfectly in stride on digs.
Condensed splits means your "teams were DARING Brock to throw it downfield" is total nonsense. Also, most of Brock's success throwing down field came out of either empty gun or in shotgun with CMC not even on the field. All the excuses for Brock's downfield success come from the land of fairy tale narratives such as, "this wide receiver is producing because the other WR is drawing double coverage," "this declining WR who isn't producing anymore is struggling because teams are double covering him. We need a WR opposite him so teams can't double cover him," "this defensive lineman who isn't producing anymore is struggling because he's being double teamed," "this QB is struggling because of his offensive line," and other make-believe nonsense that has never been true for any player, ever.
Trey Lance didn't deserve meaningful playing time. He is nowhere near as talented as Brock. He is not only horrible in every aspect of the position that actually matters, but he's horrible in the aspects that novice fans think matter. He's slow as molasses (ran in the 4.9s at the freshman combine and gets walked down by linebackers trying to get to the boundary) and has mediocre arm strength (then again, considering he can't even throw a spiral, maybe his arm strength is better than it seems).
