First of all, him signing an extension will have zero bearing on next year. The contract would kick in the year after.
Secondly, we have a ton of older players who's contracts will be off the books by the time the contract kicks in (Trent, Hargrave, Ward, etc.)
Third, our team has been planning for Brock's pay increase for over a year now. We currently have $50M+ in capspace for next year.
I am not interested in this hypothetical fear that we wont be able to afford players in future years that you seem to be presenting as fact. Its not a fact.
Oh.....and again......He will NOT be seeing all of this imaginary $250M figure you keep bringing up. No one ever does. Contracts get restructured ALL THE TIME.
You gotta replace those players, that's how it works. That cost money all the same. Acting like having someone who's dependent of everyone else being good around him eating up a massive part of the cap space as a great plan is silly.
You restructure QB contracts IF they're playing well.
why are you so pro pay Brock whatever the f**k he wants? I'm all for a fair deal that allows easy outs and lets the team get proven talent and resign who they need too.
Yes, and most of the time, when a large amount of players need to be replaced, they are replaced with the draft and free agents, not just free agents. The only one who is acting like Brock is dependent on everyone else being good is you. Brock is having a mediocre season with a plethora of things that went wrong. He isnt having a "s**t" season like you have repeatedly claimed.
And yeah you restructure him or you get rid of him. Point is, almost zero QBs play out the entirety of the contract. You continue to harp on paying him $250M but reality is he wont be seeing that unless he is really good....and even then he will get restructured before seeing that whole contract.
I am not "so pro Brock that I would pay him whatever the f**k he wants." I never said give him whatever he wants. You are making that up. I am just not naive to believe we should offer him a Baker sized deal and expect him to be ok with that. He is 24. He has had more success than any NFL QB in history apart from Mahomes in his first 2.5 years.
