This is good to know. Brock has played below average-average this year and has been the worst QB in the NFC West.

Below average season for Purdy:

Yards/game: 9th
Yards/attempt: 3rd
Air yards/attempt: 3rd
QBR: 11th
Passer rating: 15th
Total TD's: 14th

He is below the league average in:
Completion percentage (65.0% compared to 65.2%)
Passing TD percentage (4.0% compared to 4.5%)
INT percentage (2.4% compared to 2.2%)

He is above the league average in:
Success percentage (at least 40% of yards needed on 1st down, 60% needed on 2nd down, 100% on 3rd or 4th down): 48.1% (13th) compared to 45.6% average
Yards/attempt: 8.3 (3rd) compared to 7.1 average
Yards/completion: 12.8 (4th) compared to 11.0 average
QB rating: 94.4 compared to 91.8 average

You also have to answer the question - what were the factors and variables that led Brock to being the last player selected in the draft? What were the reasons he was almost never drafted?

Nobody had heard of Iowa State before Brock Purdy and Matt Campbell. They played in the shadow of U of Iowa.

Last year, ESPN did a re-draft of that year and Purdy was the #11 (IIRC) overall pick in the draft.

If the Niners were to, hypothetically, release him after this season, how many teams would be lining up to sign him to be their franchise QB of the future? Giants, Jets and Raiders are the only teams that come to mind, because every other team has theirs. You can maybe throw in Carolina, but they seem pretty content on moving forward with Bryce Young.

Purdy is 6'0 with an average arm, isn't all that mobile and has small hands. I'm sure they can find someone 6'2, with a good arm and able to throw in wet weather in the 4th or 5th round of the draft. Someone like Will Rogers III out of Washington. Or sign someone like a Mac Jones or Kyle Trask. There isn't need to sign Purdy to anything more than $35M a year. If he takes a 5 year, $100M deal, then sure. I wouldn't mind him at $20M a year, but at $60M? No thanks.

It is funny because I remember somebody being a fan of Kyle Trask and wanting to draft him

long on moxie and short on arm talent. he's been throwing soft balls all season. it's a real problem.

Do you ever watch the receivers in All-22? If you tell me you do, then we should have a film session together.

Last, Greg Cosell said the 49ers lack receivers that can get open quickly. When they do get separation, it takes longer than it should. This forces Purdy to hold the ball longer than is ideal. He also noted they lack the speed that the better passing attacks have. (we all know that) The result is that Purdy has to layer passes into anticipation areas that require tough, not laser speed.

Cosell did not that if Purdy had an arm like Allen, (only Allen does) he could fit balls in for those late-developing routes. However, the answer is in quicker receivers, not just a QB with a Josh Allen-type arm.

Irony here is the type of receivers he's throwing to that Cosell says are too slow were hand picked by the guy who manages the system and calls the plays, meaning I don't expect a dramatic change in who he keeps or gets for Purdy in the future.

The hand size thing is so dumb. Nobody says that Mahomes's hands are too small and Purdy is the same size.

To the extent that Purdy has issues with inclement weather I think it's less to do with hand size and more just geveral inexperience. He grew up in Arizona, snow and rain are both exceedingly rare in the areas he lived in and play high-school ball at. He played in cold weather at Iowa State but very few sloppy, super rainy or blizzard like games so I think for him it's just a matter of learning to adapt and gaining confidence playing on those kinds of conditions which, let's face it, are always going to very rare playing in the NFC West.

Unless you make it to the playoff and have to go to GB, Philly & probably Was in the future.
He needs to learn how to throw in bad weather

Mac f**king Jones? He is straight trash.

I don't give a crap about the money.

Well you're home, in bed, and posting on a messageboard with your phone so that last part is kinda easy.

Are you going to tell me that the extra 1/8" makes a difference. Balls slipping out has more to do with how they grip the ball and how strongly they grip it than the size of the hands. Ideally bigger hands shoukd be an advantage but not always.

Uhmmm. That's not how logic works tho. Let's start with the fact that they're 2 COMPLETELY different people.

Mugsy Bogues making it to the league @ 5'3" doesnt give a green light to all 5'5" people. They can still be "far too short" for the NBA.

Trying to understand this chart. Does that mean Purdy's accuracy is about 51% when the receivers have a separation rate of what ?
Does that chart imply J Fields has the highest completion % when his receivers get the least amount of separation ? Not sure how to read that chart
I am 44 years old. I was a fan of Montana, Young and Garapolo.

I was never really a fan of Kaepernick because I did not like his passing. I'm not really a fan of Brock as he seems to be an average passer.

But I'm hoping if we can keep him at a low cost, we can build elite players around him so we can still win a Super Bowl with his game managing capabilities.

You read accuracy vertically on the chart, so Justin Fields is higher than Brock, but not first (Goff is). Fields is on the left because separation is plotted horizontally, and he's at the bottom there.

I've been screaming this from the roof tops all season. The WR's and receiving threats that we have were all drafted for Jimmy to match Kyle's zone beating route combinations. We do not have (and have never had under Kyle) the type of WR's who can get open against man and/or in situations where we have to pass (coming from behind). We now have a QB that can do the latter, but are seriously lacking the weapons to go along with him.

FAR easier to find WR's/weapons that fit Purdy than it is to find a QB with arm talent like Josh Allen. Build the team around Purdy and his instincts, athleticism, anticipation, and accuracy.

Yup it can't be possibly Purdy, has to be everyone else!

Par for the course who blamed everyone but Jimmy. At least Furlow is consistent
