as an aside, if you follow the picture around the league, i see us moan about injury, and diggs is out for the year, dell was just in the hospital, and collins has missed time. nfl football has injuries that's reality folks.

This is where you're wrong. It's not about what a QB can do at their best. Will Levis can make crazier play/throw than Tom Brady. So can Jamarcus Russel. So can Trey Lance. That's not what matters

Every QB will be better with a good OL, but not all have the potential to be an elite QB with a good OL

how am i wrong? you launch into a convo of busts. stroud is no bust. i'm not saying watch guys in shorts at pro day. you can watch stroud in the league.

I've watched stroud in the league. Not saying he's a bust, but if they tried to give us Stroud for Brock Kyle and John would hang up. Now if they wanted to swap receivers then we'd listen

Strpud had worse numbers this year and worse numbers last year. Look what Love got and add inflation.

It's funny you posted that because I was just about to say that many people would say Purdy and Stroud regressed, but I had them both as top 5-7 quarterbacks last year with room for improvement. Both of them have had bad pass protection and some of their best weapons injured, more so for Purdy. I give them both a bit of a pass this year because of those reasons. However, at least Purdy did improve his scrambling and play making ability not to mention in the beginning of the year he was making some better deep throws with no separation from the receivers, unlike Stroud who's lost some accuracy and taking a lot of inexcusable sacks.

I put them both as top 10 quarterbacks still.

interesting, we hang up on CJ Stroud. who in the NFL do we not hang up on? do we take mahomes or lamar? and btw, if you are gonna say brock is QB1 in the nfl, or QB3 in the nfl, okay, pay him accordingly. can't have it both ways and think he's better than love or dak and deserves less.

Not hard to hang up on stroud when you already have a better qb. Obviously we'd swap Brock for Lamar or Mahomes
Ok so I think Brock is an upgrade of what the niners have had since Young. You can argue Garcia and Smith but Brock is right there and I feel above them. So what are legitimate options if you don't want to pay him the going rate? Darnold is going to be close to the same salary and I have zero confidence in him. There's a long list of QBs from the lance draft that has busted out you can bring them in and die a slow painful death or you can try the draft. I'm not advocating moving on from Brock but paying a qb is also scary. There is one qb that I would be remotely interested in and would be cheaper for a couple of years but if he panned out they would be in the same situation. The qb is Malik Willis. He has played well maybe even better than love and is already in the Shanahan system.

i'd encourage you to watch more film of guys around the league. in order to win games with willis Green Bay effectively had to cut their O down to about 5 plays. that may get you past teams like the titans. it's not anything sustainable. he looks very far off from being anything like a pro QB.

What if they wanted to give us Nico Collins and Tank Dell for Deebo/Aiyuk? Brock's been better with less

this is where the convo goes off the rails. QB eval should be isolating what the QB can do and what the QB can't do. not saying well he would be better with an OL upgrade and a WR upgrade. any QB would be better with upgrades.

So basically you are saying that QB evaluation should be completely hypothetical. Good thing you arent a GM.

Sorry, the rest of your post is solid though.

I hear you. I understand people reluctance to pay Brock but what are the alternatives? They are few and far between. I am just bored seeing people on here who don't want to pay him but have no answer to replace him.

what's hypothetical about the film?

Film doesnt show what a QB can do independent of other players.

Also a dumbass take. I can turn on film of Kap "doing more" than Tom Brady could. Where would that get us?

Into the SB throwing 3 straight fade passes instead of having Kap "doing more"
