The issue is the long-term commitment as if he regresses again next year we are stuck and cannot move off him and go all-in on another QB without a huge cap hit.

If he needs elbow surgery again he shouldn't even be on the team anymore. It's a cold business but that's the way it is. Time to move on.
I don't get it though. How did he hurt his elbow? It didn't get torqued back like last time. At least that I could see. Wow. Unbelievable.
Would you rather have Baker Mayfiled or Brock ?

Really? You don't think playing a QB who needs elbow surgery in the off-season when the team isn't even in the playoff race anymore is a fireable offense? What about playing Fred Warner when he has a broken bone in his ankle in this same situation?

Did you forget what he did to RG3 in Washington?

You know the players have a say in the matter, right? You saw Purdy's face at the end when he couldn't go back in, he was crushed. These guys love each other and play for one another. They call each other "brothers" for a reason.

I agree with you that Purdy is great when he's on but stop pretending that he's perfect and doesn't make mistakes. Those were both bad INT's. Injured or not. He also made some spectacular throws and had a perfect passer rating up until the INT. So his ceiling is really high but there is admittedly a floor lower than the top QB's because he can't rely on physical talent to cover up bad decisions.

All of this has to be weighed with his extension. I believe he's earned $60M/year and in 2-3 years that won't even be top 10 money. But Purdy would be REALLY wise to accept $50M to $55M and include an out for the team. Make it fair for both sides but err on the team side. Gamble on himself. That would allow the Niners to keep and sign more playmakers and rebuild the defense. Win a Super Bowl, THEN get his big pay day.

If he goes for max money now he can probably leverage the team and get it. But his teammates and coaches might be sour, and many fans will be pissed. Expectations will be through the roof. See Brandon Aiyuk getting booed as an example. I just really hope he's smart enough to avoid this.

Give him a slight raise for a one year.prove.it deal.. He hasn't shown he's a franchise qb.
If I were Purdy, 49ers are the last team I would talk to In FA 26, if this happens.

Why? Packers just did it with Jordan Love. Love went out there balled out and got his big deal after the prove it deal

Why? We would keep him under his last year of his rookie contract.

Hypothetically speaking, if he needs surgery and will miss half of next season. Who's the Niners starting QB?
would you draft one or trade ?

The second guy fell on his throwing arm and it bent too far towards his chest. So a normal bend but went too much.

Because some people have no idea what they're talking about when they comment.

The replay didn't look bad for his elbow so it's very concerning to see he's having an issue with it again on a fairly normal play.

baker but i happen to have a like for baker going back a while. he's got some moxie himself, like brock. but he's got more of an arm also. the lack of arm on brock is really giving me issues. i have to admit i was wrong on this one. i thought brock's arm was fine or good enough and this year it's just frustrating to watch the lack of any velo. the ball to rick is an example, it was a duck and should have been a walk in td. accurate ball but not much on that.
