QB Brock Purdy Thread

Look at the actual sequence of plays, lol. Two of those drives killed any chance of running the ball because of what happened on 1st down. Like I mentioned, we can complain that he called passes on those 1st downs and then b***h about the final sequence before Moody missed the FG on drive 3. Outside of that, it's not a very strong criticism outside of just looking at the numbers on paper, free of context.

Are we really going to blame Kyle when he calls a pass on 1st down with a hot QB on possession 2, gets a guy open, and the QB sails it over his head for an easy pick? We shouldn't. And we also shouldn't blame Kyle for calling passes when we are behind the chains, exampled on possession 4.

Fair point. Regardless of "sequence", it's egregious to call 2 run plays in an entire half of a 1 score game. Possession 3 with the 3 straight incompletions, and then possession 4 when he threw the pick. 10 straight pass plays before the pick 🤷 again…. 1 score game

The play calling in the second half bugged me because he went away from the screens and misdirection plays that were working. BUT to be honest, you know me, I don't put as much blame on Shanahan as others do. And in actuality, I didn't think the 9ers would play that good tonight where they were going toe to toe with one of the best teams in the NFL. 49ers looked worse against a s**tty team in Miami.

It wasn't egregious at all is the point. It looks bad on paper. It looks entirely reasonable in sequence, with some exception for the end of that 3rd drive when we had 3 straight incompletions before the missed field goal.

Again, the bulk of this criticism revolves around what happened on 1st downs throughout the half at the start of drives, and within drives.
He played very well. Made 2 major mistakes. First one was a physical error on the high pass to RP. The second was when he misread the coverage, a mental error.

The physical errors you can live with. The mental mistakes are the ones he can't make. #31 is a good player but that was a basic read.

I think he will be shut down for week 18 and they are going to end up paying him the contract.

I'm sure the lions defense felt similarly after 10 straight passes. Must've just got really lucky and guessed the 11th play would be a pass too. On 1st and 10.

you are correct. gotta evaluate each unit on it's own. this is the brock thread. you can't look at clean pocket picks and say well what about the defense? or what about moody? that's other threads. brock did well just had a couple he would like to have back.

I'm sure they felt lucky when Brock is missing an open receiver and throwing it right to their defender. Def should have ran the ball on that one in hindsight.

Maybe let's just execute the plays that are there to be made, run or pass.
The ball has been coming out awkward out of Purdy's hand for awhile now. It was really glaring in the TB game, but it may have been flying under the radar before then. I wouldn't be surprised if they have to go back into that elbow in the offseason and fix something.

Every ball he throws has low velocity and floats to its target. I don't know how many times this season he has underthrown an open receiver who got tackled in play when they should've scored a TD.

Yup, it seems that he's pushing some throws rather than snapping through them. He's definitely not right and hasn't been for awhile.

Agreed. Noticed this since Oct or so. He was slinging it with zip and velocity last year. Something has been wrong well before he had the shoulder thing. He's been lobbing like Shaun Hill and Jimmy.

Jimmy flat out has a better arm than Brock IMO. It's what's between the ears that separates them… and Brock's mobility.
Anyone who knows anything about my posting history knows I am never one to make excuses for the quarterback.

But even with that being said, I will never pin a loss on a quarterback for making a couple mistakes when the only reason the team was even in the game to begin with was because of his play. I don't care if the QBs name is Brock Purdy, Joe Montana or Alex Smith.

Two really bad plays. That's it.

I hope we can work on arm strength this offseason
Has there been any successful QB's in the league who have undergone two Tommy johns?

Purdy didn't have Tommy John.
