We should have got Kirk Cousins a couple of years ago and instead of giving up 3 first round picks (inc the pick that got Dallas Mich Parsons) for Trey Lance and we would have at least one more Superbowl trophy in our trophy cabinet.

Cousins was not a better QB than Purdy this season, and he's a 36 year old player coming off an achilles tear. If we could sign him for dirt cheap as leverage against Purdy that would be an idea. Actually playing him would be going backwards.

Brady aside - who is as much of a QB unicorn as there has ever been - has it ever worked out to sign a 40+ vet QB?

Law of % say go with the 25-year-old you already have.
Who would garner more trade compensation this off season, Purdy or JJ McCarthy ?

True, though Mason's fumble against AZ was worse than any of those INTs.

True. But Mason's fumble would not have been significant without Brock's second half interceptions that let AZ back into the game.

Absolutely not!
20-30 million at best.

JJ. teams like what they like. now you can say teams are wrong. but teams like youth, traits, etc. jj didn't do anything bad, he just got hurt. he's about as valuable as he was on draft day. now do we feel he is available? minny may just keep both guys for now.

Very true!
I think every situation is individual and you can't give a macro view.

There have been plenty of examples of QBs changing teams and winning a Superbowl when the rest of the team was ready, like we are now, injuries aside.

Doug Willaims, Nich Foles etc.

Its really more about QB cost vrs QB production.

We shouldn't be overpaying anyone.

If they are 25 or 40.

And with the modern game and intense training, the relatively young age of 40 is the new 30.

Purdy hasn't finished the season twice in his 4 years.

He is injured now and if we were first seed in the playoffs this year, we might have had to go through the playoffs with Dobbs. We all remember that Philly playoff game, ingrained in all 49er supporters' minds.

His elbow and throwing arm must be of a huge concern if you are thinking of paying him.

Cousins at 40, is more physically reliable than Purdy at 25.

I'd rather not pay Purdy this offseason. That doesn't make Cousins a viable alternative. Again, your comment about 40 being the new 30 in the NFL is detached from reality.

And this is exactly my point about Brock. Elite QB's score points and close out games early on.

With Brock's below average play and his inability to score points, he keeps other teams in games and then you have late game defining plays against individual players rather than the focus being on Brock as the problem.

The perfect example of this was our game at home against Rams. Brock could only score 6 points at home and so then you had the Deebo drop as this huge game changing play. But if Brock was elite and scored points, that play like the Mason fumble against AZ are not so important.

It was the same in the Super Bowl. It was Brock's average play and inability to score points that kept the Chiefs in the game. Elite QB's would have put the Chiefs away.
