better how?
This play sums up Kirk's career for me.
Giants vs Vikings
31-24 game
check down on 4th down
4th & 8 at MIN 48(1:44 - 4th) (Shotgun) K.Cousins pass short right to T.Hockenson to NYG 49 for 3 yards (X.McKinney).
Obviously, that is one play.
Purdy and Cousins statistics for 2024/25 are almost identical with Purdy just slightly ahead.
I think Kirk has better skills (outside the run game) but Purdy is on a better team which pulls him up to a new level. Throw Brock on the Bears (even with the 49ers scheme) and he would sink.
Kirk will take off and run sometimes but not nearly enough. Kirk is more accurate and has more velocity on his balls.
At a rookie contract, Purdy is a better deal but if you are paying them the same money, then there isn't enough difference to differentiate.
There stats really aren't that close for '24.
Here's 3 evaluations that are commonly used:
Purdy vs Cousins 2024
Purdy PFF: 82.4 10th/71
Cousins PFF: 74.3 29th/71
Purdy ESPN QBR: 67.8 (7th)
Cousins ESPN QBR: 51.8 (23rd)
Purdy QB rating: 96.1(14th)
Cousin: QB rating: 88.6 (21st)
Purdy wins all 3 by a good amount.
Rushing yards and mobility is comically not even close
Kirk Cousins 23 carries. 0 yards. 6 Fumbles
Brock Purdy 66 carries 323 yards 2 fumbles
People keep using that argument of Brock is on a better team. Brock did not have a good team around him this year. His oline was pathetic. The receiver room was constantly thin. The running game was starting 3rd and 4th stringers.
If you put Brock on the Bears, he would be successful. And people would discredit him because he's throwing to two 1st round receivers, Keenen Allen who is a multiple 1000 yard receiver, and solid/good young TE in Kmet.
