Who? What?

Kyle has never talked up anybody other than Darnold, and that was only because he signed him as a backup. Darnold went 3rd. They didn't like Darnold at the time, no matter what Kyle says now. They wouldn't have traded for Jimmy if they did.

They also likely wouldn't have been able to. The Browns and Jets weren't budging. The Giants wouldn't have wanted to move that far back and not get Barkley.

Kyle wanted Josh Allen. He hoped Allen would have come out in 2017 when they were drafting 2nd overall.

he didn't so they stuck with the Kirk plan. Jimmy became available and he liked him and Carr in that 14 draft. He wanted the browns to draft him when he was there.

Exactly

The other GM candidate from AZ who's name I forget would've made that happen too. I remember an interview with him and he had a relationship with Allen's agent and he would've declared and Josh would've been the 9ers pick.

Anyone thinking he would have been fired if he didn't sign Jimmy is making up what actually went down when he was hired.

People on here conveniently forget how bad things were before Shanahan got here. It's crazy that people forgot that Jed and Paraag had to give a PRESENTATION to the candidates. The f**king owner had to get in front of Josh McDaniels and Kyle Shanahan, and sell them the f**king job. Just think about how crazy that is.

As you'd expect, McDaniels said all the right things publicly about how he appreciated the Niners for considering him.

"I was really impressed with Jed York and Paraag [Marathe] and Brian [Hampton] and people that came for the 49ers organization," McDaniels told New England media. "They did a great job with their presentation. Again, humbled to be included in that process. At this time, it's just best for my family and myself to remain here in New England and focus on this year's playoffs and finish out the year, however it turns out."

Yet somehow Kyle's first two years are still held against him as if any other coach would've done better.

LOL!

Yeah, right.

Just like he also loved Darnold after signing him and said he could be the next Steve Young (which is the most ridiculous comparison ever...most dissimilar QBs you could find).

He also signed Josh Rosen.

He loved that 2018 class sooooo much that they traded a 2nd round pick for Jimmy during a season where they were on track to have the top pick in the draft, then gave him a big contract after a 5 game sample.

Not to mention, Allen is almost the furthest thing from the kind of QB Kyle likes. Not quite as much as Lamar, but completely off his radar.

Kyle is not a fan of "arm talent." He's not a fan of athleticism. He wants guys who primarily play from the pocket and who do what he tells them. He doesn't want ad-libbing. When Brock ad-libs, he gets pissed off and dismisses any success with it in the media.

Kyle is trying to cover his own ass with the media. He never liked any of the guys considered top guys in the 2017 and 2018 classes. He also claims he didn't do much scouting on Stat Paddy in 2017 because he was planning on signing Cousins, yet somehow, he wound up taking Beathard.

Just look at this garbage...

"I didn't look into him obviously as much as I should have," Shanahan said. "We definitely looked into him, studied all of his tape. Was just a freak, could make any throw, had the ability to anything. That was a little bit different situation for us. We had the second pick in the draft, did not feel like from all the intel that you get and stuff that he was gonna go that high."

Translation:

"He was so amazing, but I preferred Beathard."

If he's not a fan of arm talent and athleticism then how was Trey Lance the pick over Mac Jones?

He doesn't like Brocks ad libs because Brock doesn't have the physical talent to consistently throw off balance or run away from would be tacklers. Brock needs to work on being more disciplined and being less gunslinger. Use it sparingly.

Or that Tom Cable was apparently the backup option. If Denver doesn't flub things with Kyle and they don't let him leave the building then 49ers fans would have been looking at Cable or Vance Joseph as the next HC.

Tom Cable + Jimmy G would've been the championship formula. What could've been.

Trey Lance has no arm talent or athleticism whatsoever. He can't even throw a spiral and he got walked down by linebackers trying to get to the boundary. Dude runs 4.9.

Kyle obviously wanted Mac Jones and got talked out of it somehow...probably because it was Covid year and there was no combine to see just how bad Lance actually is. He was convinced that he could somehow turn Lance into a QB. When he realized that he couldn't, he gave up on him immediately.

No, Kyle doesn't like improvisation, period. He called Brock's touchdown vs. the Jaguars the worst decision he's ever made. Brock pulled off nearly all his ad-libs last year.

So John Lynch and Adam Peter's wanted a guy with no arm and athleticism and convinced Kyle of that fact. Makes perfect sense.

He pulls.some of the ad libs off. Others become huge sacks like against the Rams. He needs to ad lib less overall and just take the check downs or throw it away.

The exact thing Josh Allen has finally learned which is why he's gonna be MVP.

Don't care how they did it. All I care about as a fan is they got it done. They got Shanahan and they got Lynch, bottom line.

Endured consecutive 2-14 seasons in the late 70s. I don't care about the details on how Eddie D. got Walsh. All I care about is he got Walsh.

None of this has to do with the Brock Purdy thread, which we're in.

They didn't realize he lacked those attributes because there was no combine. Lance's personal trainer lied about GPS times. He ran in the 4.9s at the freshman combine and it's clear watching him that was accurate.

Note also that Josh Dobbs was 3rd string, not 2nd, and that's certainly not because of physical attributes.

Kyle clearly has certain philosophies that he sticks to. Just like with Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick. You know what players at each position they would ever use, and what players they would never have any interest in.
Really hoping the early optimism we're hearing becomes true, that Brock's new contract is finished up before the offseason program begins.

Get that done, get that in the rearview mirror, and let's roll!

Yeah, right. Because Jed would never fire a coach after excessive losing. I'm sure you're confident in Jim Tomsula and Chip Kelly turning things around. Remember how understanding Jed was in Jim Harbaugh's down season?

You were paying attention then as well as you are now apparently.

Not very well :)

Endless contradictions.
