If there's an opportunity for a big play take it doesn't = throw deep no matter what

What OC worth a damn wouldn't want the big play if it's there.

I also could see Kyle giving up on him from a mile away. Again, I argued about it endlessly here as it was happening.

Surely it must bother Kyle that Brock doesn't have the elite physical traits you think he believed Lance had.

Wonder why he's going to give him a big new contract rather than looking for a QB with a bigger arm and more foot speed.

This isn't hard to decipher. Those physical traits are secondary to being able to play QB from the pocket. Kyle has said as much himself.

Prioritizing pocket play first doesn't indicate a lack of desire for elite physical traits. The combination is what every coach in the NFL wants.

Outside of that Brock has some plus physical talent. It's just not in his throwing arm.

The subtext of what Jimmy is saying, "no matter what," is that if he sees a favorable matchup downfield, Kyle wants you to throw the ball even if you don't see the guy with a lot of separation. Jimmy didn't do that. Jimmy was prone to coming off reads downfield because he wasn't comfortable throwing downfield.

Brock goes to the receiver who is highest in the progression order who gets either one on one man coverage or has a route projecting him to be open vs. zone. He tries to throw before they even get into their break, or before they gain separation.

Kyle prefers an incompletion deep to a 10 yard gain on a checkdown when a receiver had one-on-one man coverage deep. That's where Brock listens to Kyle and Jimmy doesn't.

Exactly. You get Brocks progression ability and pocket presence in a Josh Allen physical skillset and you got a HOFer. I don't see one of those available in draft or FA.

So explain how a team that's always picking low unless having down seasons like this where still they win enough games to pick in the teens get a qb like that? Unless they risk doing the same bs trading multiple firsts for a risk like they did with Lance? Good physical trait qbs don't just walk around in FA either. Brock is already a good qb even if he's not built like Allen and has proven he can win big games when the team surrounds him with talent and they're not dropping like flies.

That's right. They're unicorns. And the team believes they can win it all with Brock and almost did. There's no reason in their mind to start over.

That's called good QB play. It gets into bad play when you chuck the ball to Jennings without looking what's out there. That's the difference between 2023 and 2024 Brock.

But what you described is not throw it deep no matter what. It's throw it if you have this particular matchup. A big difference.

Right. Now it's about hopefully finding the happy medium of contract for both parties.
Brock is a good but not great quarterback.

Thats why he was drafted as Mr Irrelevant.

"Pop Gun" Arm strength.

Brock has never chucked a ball without looking at what's out there.

The difference between 2023 Brock and 2024 Brock is 2023 Brock was accurate and 2024 Brock isn't.

Kyle wanted Brock to throw nearly all of the balls he has thrown this year. What he didn't want was for him to sail it way over their head, or to be late in throwing it.

Different QBs have different thresholds for coming off reads. Kyle hates checkdowns and wants a QB who only throws them when necessary. This is key to his chunk play offense.
Brock seemingly fails to read safeties that stand about 5 yards behind his intended receiver over 15–20-yard routes especially in 4th quarters.

Maybe they put an invisibility clock on or something.

How does going through your progressions and letting that dictate where you go with the ball and feeding TE George Kittle when he's having an All-Pro season?

"Yeah, I think just how we scheme it up and everything, for me I trust in the game plan. I trust in our guys to go and make plays. I just try to take what the defense gives me. I don't walk up to the line of scrimmage in a play and go, I'm going to go here, here, here just because.

What OC wants their QB to look checkdown first? You SHOULD only throw it when necessary. That's the whole point.

Can't believe Brock's actual words. Gotta listen to the subtext of a Jimmy interview 5+ years ago.
