Prioritizing pocket play first doesn't indicate a lack of desire for elite physical traits. The combination is what every coach in the NFL wants.
Outside of that Brock has some plus physical talent. It's just not in his throwing arm.
Exactly. You get Brocks progression ability and pocket presence in a Josh Allen physical skillset and you got a HOFer. I don't see one of those available in draft or FA.
People get enamored with the Mahomes/Allen/Lamar's of the world. We all want a guy who can play great within the scheme and make every throw while also being able to win off script and make big plays with their legs.
The problem is those guys are not easy to find and finding them is not a luxury all teams have...definitely not a luxury all front offices have.
Best way to get yourself fired as a HC/GM is swing big for a QB and miss. Shanahan and Lynch got lucky after the huge miss on Trey because they were able to keep winning and found Brock Purdy. At this point they can't swing for another QB like that and miss.
The only solution if you want a QB like that is getting Brock's deal done and then hoping you find a project guy like Jordan Love, Lamar, Kap and develop him behind Brock and pray he's got enough work ethic and drive to handle that development properly.
The issue is other teams are going to try to do the same exact thing. So either you suck bad enough where you get an early round pick with a stud QB prospect in an off year and I can't say this draft class has that or you simply have to get lucky at the right time.
Odds are for anyone hoping to hit on one of those elite QBs you probably have to wait until Shanahan and Lynch are gone.
