QB Brock Purdy Thread

Having great weapons around a QB is not used to diminish literally any other QB but Brock. Its crazy.

They are used to diminish the importance of the numbers! Which they 100 percent do, whether Brock is great or not.

When you can lead the league in YPA if you never had a completion past the line of scrimmage, it lets you know that the teammates are skewing those numbers. This is a good thing if you're a 49ers fan, lol.

I don't think so and here's why:

I also don't think Brock was elite in 2023 and it's not because he had great players around him elevating his numbers. Numbers are not the criteria. Depending on how you would define elite, our opinion would be shared in GM/FO surveys, player rankings, etc.

Players had him as the 7th best QB (28th overall player) before the season. He was 4th in MVP voting.

Would that qualify for you?
in the upside down, purdy is elite and elway isn't. he's overrated. in reality you need a six pack of homer goggles to be anywhere on that wavelength.

No one said Purdy is an elite QB. Everyone agrees he isnt. Most people just agree he had an elite season in 2023.

And of all people to call someone a homer. LMAO.

Clearly it doesn't, as I don't believe he was elite. I'm pretty sure Woo thinks he was a top 5 QB in 23 as well, so there is a disagreement there.

There isnt a single elite player in the history all of sports who's statistics dont prove he is great. Not a one. Yet for some reason, people seem to think that Elway is above statistics.

I have never once said that statistics tell the entire story. But statistics are a huge part of what measures greatness.

Elways stats are great.....when you consider what he had to work with offensively...especially when he was 'asked' to carry the offense throughout the 1980's.. Practically everyone connected with the NFL, whether it's coaches, scouts, GM's, etc. etc. will tell you that John Elway was an all time great NFL QB. He ran Dan Reeves purile offense until Reeves basically told him to salvage a win in the latter stages of a game....and he did so on many instances.

But here is some stat-at-face-value dude on a 49ers page deciding to pipe in claiming otherwise.......logic tells that person to pipe down.

When it comes to John Elway.......just be quiet....you don't have any clue as to what you are talking about.

The silly part of the specific argument is he had the kind of numbers you would expect, at the end of his career, in a QB friendly offense, with better players around him, more suited to inflate those numbers.

His numbers in the 90's were really good....I wouldn't say great....but he was such a one-man-gang in the 80's that it probably took its toll on him. Regardless....Greg Cosell was right.....Josh Allen is the closest thing to Elway in todays game that he's seen....and the comparisons are fairly obvious. They both are a one-man-machine in their respective eras.

Agreed.

Allen is an absolute freak at the position.

I don't need to. I saw your attempt to dismiss Elway in your thread, got a good laugh, and let it be.

Then, whatever argument you have in this thread, I got a good laugh, and I took apart.

And, he dominated QBR and Air Yards stats.

He was tied in QBR with Dak Prescott.

You seem to misinterpret air yards stats.

What did I misinterpret today? Wasn't he #1 in AYA?

You didnt take apart anything in this thread. You are dismissing what Purdy accomplished in 2023 because of the situation he was in, and propping up what Elway didnt accomplish in his career because of your perceived bad situation he was in.

At least you are staying consistent in making excuses though. I'll give you credit for your consistency.

Thst sounds very subjective.

He was #1 in AYA, but AYA isnt air yards per attempt. AYA is Adjusted Yards per attempt. What you are looking for is IAYA, which is intended air yards per attempt. He measured out pretty high in that category too, but he wasnt #1.
