What? I quoted the statement....the comparison was to Allen, which I commented on?

Right. He wasnt calling Elway a statue in general. He was calling him a statue compared to Allen. No one thinks Elway was a statue.
Bringing this thread back to the Topic.

Nice throw by Purdy here. Need all of these next year.

Yeah, I think it is a bit of an odd comp.

Clearly it doesn't, as I don't believe he was elite. I'm pretty sure Woo thinks he was a top 5 QB in 23 as well, so there is a disagreement there.

Funny thing is you weren't saying that in 2023.

When you can lead the league in YPA if you never had a completion past the line of scrimmage, it lets you know that the teammates are skewing those numbers. This is a good thing if you're a 49ers fan, lol.

He barely threw it behind the line of scrimmage, hence that's irrelevant.

Throws behind the line of scrimmage are going to have a huge completion percentage. If nearly all of those are to Screenbo, which they are, they're going to lead to a high yards per attempt average, since that's the entire reason he's still in the league.

On the other hand, Brandon Aiyuk set the yards per attempt record for a wide receiver with 50+ catches (eclipsing John Taylor's record set in 1993), and he wasn't doing it with catches behind the line of scrimmage. He was averaging 12.8 air yards per reception. You don't do that unless your QB is on point.

You're so close to landing on the point. I'm impressed.

Yes I was. I can bump posts if you'd like to see.

I love this on stride deep throws from Purdy here.
I am in the Elway is overrated camp but since that has been discussed almost ad nauseum lol..about this Brock Purdy, is he elite? Is that still to be determined? I would definitely say he was in 2022, 2023. 2024 there was a dropoff, there was tons of adversity though. Not that is an excuse for some mistakes made but it's definitely going to challenge a qb fs. I would say this next season could really determine if he is elite or not..I don't see us having a cluster cluck of a year as we did this one..should have more of a balance to it. We will see how he does. Having Sorensen really sucked. Having a D that weak can deflate a qb as well. Let's hope we get Saleh and get back on track.

The funny thing about this whole conversation is that mostly everyone agrees that Purdy had an elite season in 2023. Very few, if any, posters are claiming he IS an elite QB. But then there are a few Nick Wrights in this thread that are claiming that due to his situation and surrounding cast, he didn't have an elite season in 2023, so debates are happening.

Most peoples definition of elite, in this case, are laughable....and that tells me all I need to know. For instance...the same people who ride with 'stats at face value' are the same ones who tell us all that John Elway wasn't elite?

Do you know ANYONE who thinks that? I know a few....and they seemingly don't know much about football. But hey......that Greg Cosell guy....the guy I commented on originally? He's the one that said Josh Allen is as close to Elway in todays game as he's ever seen (and i agree.)

Elway was a statue compared to Allen.

For his time, Elway was very mobile and had a cannon for an arm. Elite QB that could carry a team far without a lot around him. Basically Josh Allen.

lol. Wooisms.

If I said "you arent very smart compared to Albert Einstein," that isnt me saying you arent smart.

Conveniently leave out what? This was his quote:

Dude purposely leaves little outs to every single thing he says and provides no substance otherwise. e.g.,...saying he was "Top 4" instead of simply saying 4th... then pretends that its decisive information or something, because he literally says nothing else in the post.

If you're inclined to defend him,... its time to throw in the towel on this one.
