When "will" another team pay him if the 49ers don't, though?

2025 -- Under Contract
2026 -- Potential Franchise Tag
2027 -- Potential Franchise Tag #2
2028 -- Potential F.A.

Recent Franchise Tag Cap Hits for QBs:
2023 -- $32.4M
2024 -- $38.3M

It is increasing, but I see no current "fear factor" where we're forced to take additional risk early. We hold all the cards (see above), and no one here has any idea what teams would be willing to pay Purdy in 2028 when we'd be unable to retain him.

yeah.. thats why i don't care about the cash.. just do your job

plus, in a few years it will be a bargain as the cost keeps going up

That's why I want a Mahomes type contract for Purdy. Give him 60m on a 10 year contract. In 3 years it won't be a top 10 contract.

$600 million for Brock Purdy?

Over 10 years? Hell yes.

In 3 years it'll barely be a top 10 contract. In 5-6 years it'll be a bottom 10 contract.

We'll see. I think the league will catch on to the stupidity that is QB contracts and just paying guys the ridiculous team killing numbers "because so and so got this"

Hard pass for me
people keep talking about resets.. yet here we are with someone always becoming the highest paid in whatever position.

I'm talking QBs. It reached a whole new level of stupid; and I can't see how anyone would disagree. Dak, Trevor Lawrence, Tua, Love etc… wonder if ANY of those teams regret their decision?

I'd put money on one of two things happening in the future.

1. There will be a cap (%) on how much of the teams cap space a QB can make.

or

2. Teams will simply have a revolving door at QB and keep looking to the draft and its rookie contracts to manage their cap space. Or sign the Baker Mayfields / Sam Darnolds in the league; players that didn't work somehwhere else, to much cheaper contracts. The outliers of course would be having Mahomes/Allen/Lamar etc…

Simply put; average QBs can't make elite QB money. The proof is in the pudding

I dont think we're mortgaging the future of the team for phantom teams we cant even identify as a threat.

And this "revelation" that he can hold out doesn't move the 2028 FA year forward even one bit, as he could still be franchised in 2027, whether he played in 2026 or not.

So these other teams aren't even a threat until 2028 if that's what we wanna do.

Teams that need a QB, of which there are always plenty.

You don't sign him now, there's every chance that you're basically dictating that this is his last year on the team no matter what he does, because he could take that as a slight. Why wouldn't he? He clearly expects a new contract based on his comments.

As for the franchise tag stuff...yeah, right. The 49ers are just going to keep franchising a guy who won't even play just because they hate him. They're going to waste all that cap space on a guy who refuses to play year after year, rather than accepting high draft picks for him.

He's under contract. If he doesn't play next year, that small contract transfers from 2025 to 2026, and he's in the same predicament.

His only card - partly - is pissing off the fanbase at the beginning of the year due to us missing his outstanding play and dealing with a bad backup. Problem is, his play wasnt outstanding and he risks his entire career if his temporary replacement starts out looking better than he did this year.

What teams would be absolutely demanding for Brock Purdy right now, forcing us to make an early move? I'd love to hear.

Luckily our team has a great culture known for taking care of players. If they force stars like Purdy to play out their contracts, and/or threaten franchise tags, who is going to come and want to play here, and what does that do to our locker room?

This should be exactly our course of action with Brock.

Again,... Supply and Demand is what'd dictate things..... in 2028. "Teams that need a QB" without having any teams AT ALL in mind that could potentially threaten you is certainly NOT the way the 49ers are handling business moves in 2025.

Any QB that plays for the 49ers for any prolonged length of time is a star. Don't think that is a needle-mover.

I don't think we ever took care of players (inferring that they maybe weren't thought to be worth the deals). I think we betted on those players taking care of us in upcoming, projected years.

It's not what we'd do or what he'd do. It's who has the upper hand. You were shown - clearly - that Brock doesn't have any options aside from either taking a lesser deal or proving on the field that he'll be worth the money.

Jordan Love just like vs us in the playoffs last year. Just because he had eight good games they paid him 55 million per year. I love it and people actually have the gall to say anything whatsoever about Purdy compared to these other quarterbacks that have better physical traits but nothing upstairs compared to him.

In 2026. Because Brock could refuse to play under the tag, knowing teams are interested after he returned to MVP form. The 49ers aren't going to eat the cap space while he sits home in protest just because they think he's being unreasonable in being pissed off they didn't extend him.

You think that 2026 is going to be different from every other season in the history of football?

For some pointless speculation:

Miami: Tua has a history of concussions and Mike McDaniel would like the fact Brock is experienced in the system.

New Orleans: At that point they'll probably give up on Carr turning them around.

Dallas: Jerry Jones could come to the conclusion Dak Prescott isn't good enough to win the Super Bowl.

Chicago: Caleb Williams is terrible, and they may come to that realization when he still sucks in his second season.

Indianapolis: They'll accept Anthony Richardson is a bust at that point.

Pittsburgh: They're not in position to take a QB high unless they trade up, and Russell Wilson is obviously not the answer.

My man!!!!!! Also, Hurts has regressed 2 years in a row and has the best offense in the league surrounding him. 2 great WRs, an MVP rb, a good TE and a top OL and he still is not a good passer
