I think he's not elite, but who is? Like 4 qb each generation. He is a tier below that imo. Top 10 QB. He will get paid. No matter how, much someone will b***h.

Outside of that playoff game Herbert had 3 INTs all yr. He's regarded as a super smart QB who can process well. So no I don't buy he has a "small brain"

FWIW Brock had a 2.6 INT% while Herbert had a 0.6 INT %

I'm not talking about generational, I'm talking about an elite compared to your peers.

Yes. So Brock is at least as good as Herbert if not better imo. I would say the elite/generational are Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, Burrow. After I would say Brock is in the conversation with anyone else.

Should we discuss bringing Mariota in for his tools instead? That's not terrible at all lol

Or bring back Sam because yesterday was just two good teams going at it and someone had to lose.

Trey's not a starter,...never proven to be one. Are we comparing his contract situation or wha??? Cause he's not gonna get a big one.

We're comparing how ny treats QBs he likes and how he treats QBs he doesnt like
if a deal isn't done early/on time then we fire kyle!
49'ers management is not stupid. They know Brock has regressed and that we finished last in our division.

They will protect themselves in whatever contract they offer him. Their jobs are on the line too.

You are only looking at half of his argument though. This season at the very least pointed to validating his concerns about Brock… and now we're going into 2025 and the team isn't the same.

Things change quickly in the league. In 2023 it seemed a lot of the Trey guys couldn't come to grips with that reality. I'd suggest learning from it instead of doing the same thing for a player you like.

If Herbert has played for the 49ers in Kyle's system he would be much better than he is now. His physical tools have never rbeen in doubt and he's really smart so I'm sure he could learn Kyle's system. We've seen QBs on the Niners that suffered because of bad coaches. Alex Smith might have had a decent career with a good coach from the start.

He had a down year in a completely s**t sb hangover season. I'm sorry that this isn't enough to have me shaking in my boots yet. I used to tell people Jimmy was a mix of Rodgers and Brady after his 5 game stretch in 17 lol so I won't always support Brock, but it's going to take more than a season for me to stop

The point wasn't that you should be out on Brock. I'm not either. I have questions though. Things I didn't think I would question at the start of '23, or definitely at the end. And outside of Brock the team has real questions which changes the outlook and the strategy for all involved.

While I don't disagree, we can't deal in fantasy. Some argue Kyle limits QB's and they regress etc. I think everyone has a point but for me Brock has been very good. He is a top 10 starter since he took over and he's getting paid. How much? Who knows? I really don't care. That's Lynch's job.

For me, the number doesn't matter as much as the commitment. We all should understand the numbers will be massaged to the benefit of the team. The question for me is how quickly do we have a minimum pain out. 2 years? 3 years? If Brock continues to regress and we can't put a healthy competitive team around him, we might want to look elsewhere eventually.

Paraag is pretty good at that kinda thing. I'd expect the team to be protected.

That's part of the issue. Most want a 4 or 5 year deal and now about half is fully guaranteed. I never felt contracts should be guaranteed beyond one year. Then every year after that once the new season begins. Just too many injuries in the NFL Some guys never recover or are never the same. . I understand why the players want the guarantees but it puts the team in a risky position. Coaches are reluctant to play starters in pre season so many aren't game ready when the real games start. Next season the total dead cap money is about $384 million. It changes from year to year and money gets shuffled around but no matter how you cut it teams are paying a lot to players no longer on the roster or out of the league.

For me it's completely expected to come out of a season like this with questions. It's expected for a 3rd year qb to struggle when everything is off. He still has to answer the questions of course, and I don't mind extending him for what he's already done while he answers them
