QB Brock Purdy Thread

Brock will get 20-25 million. No other team will pay him more.

The vast majority are the same folks though. I'm not on the same page as I was with Jimmy either. I've said over and over Brock is better. I don't think he's some elite level QB though. He's a good young QB and I got no problem with him being the guy. I do think he will need more around him to be successful and that gets harder when he's making elite cash

You dont need to keep repeating this. Especially because almost zero people are arguing the opposite.
more on that one, i think purdy is atypical cuz he's pick 262. rare for round 7 to even get snaps. most guys are round 1 cuz that's where QBs are taken. so if he was a round 1 with the tools GMs pay money for, i can see it. but he's a bit of a unusual case.

Sometimes it's worth repeating because we're about to pay him like he is one. I understand people are going to argue that players like Dak, Tua, and Jordan Love got paid and aren't elite either, but that doesn't mean it's the right move to make.

Some people just philosophically disagree on how to handle the position, especially when you don't have a clear cut answer.

If gms paid for tools Will Levis would be in line for a big payday. But no, it's Brock getting paid

Kinda sums Purdy up.

He isn't in the top 8 QBs in the league.

There isn't a QB in the league that's cap hit is $59M each yr. APY is a fake number

reality in 2017 / 2019 jimmy was doing pretty darn good. good enough apparently that we didn't feel we needed tom brady. i think what wrote jimmy a ticket out of town is he kept stacking injuries. can't have QB1 injured season after season. it's not a tenable situation for the guy holding the play sheet. he needs QB1 on the field.

Our offense scored more points per game last season than we did in 19, fyi. We also benched our starters for a game.

Numbers like this are misleading. Our offense was better last year than 2019. Really not that close in terms of efficiency. And the opposite is true of our defense.

Unfortunately that's not true

The amount of "tools" guys that flop every single year is wild. Drafting is and always will remain an inexact science precisely because the stuff you can't measure with a stopwatch, scale or tape measure is just as crucial to a player's overall success.

If tools didn't matter Gardner Minshew would be in line for a big pay day…that's about how relevant your statement is.

Where do you have him?

But thats what the market dictates. That is what I have been trying to get people to grasp on this site. Its not up to the 49ers to chance how the NFL does things with QB contracts. If you want to say 10 QBs are totally overpaid, I wont argue. But thats the cost of doing business with a non-rookie/non-end of his career QB.

The right move for this team to make is to have Purdy as our QB. Period.

Jordan Love is a better, more sensical, comparison.

I wish more people understood this. There would be far less arguments in this thread if people understood what they were arguing.
