"big deal" is a relative term you can squirm around with, and even then, you might be exaggerating just a tad:

Dak Prescott (2019)
Jameis Winston (2019)
Deshaun Watson (2020)
Mitch Trubisky (2020)
Lamar Jackson (2022)
Daniel Jones (2022)

To my knowledge, all of these guys played on the final year of their [rookie] deals without an extension in-hand, and 4 of them got major deals.

That's only recent history, too.

So it happens pretty often and is fairly customary if a guy doesn't wanna take what's offered, but no, let's live in our boujee fantasy world where we're better than everyone else and get to spend like the New York Yankees and all the other teams do not.

Lol...it's not the 49ers that "Wont Allow It",...it's him and his agent that WILL NOT ALLOW IT. And good for them.

I don't think we have that much work to do as long as we bring back our core players on offense and defense. But McCaffrey staying healthy is a must.
I have had to accept my limitations as a fan since other people decide things. I thought overtime in super bowl would be decided by who won the coin toss since the deferring team had a clearcut advantage just like they do in college. Both Brock and Kyle messed that all up. There is only so much I can do as a fan unless the 49'ers can somehow allow me to give them advice from my couch

Doesn't matter, defense wins championships

Yes it did, I'm just pointing that out though.

Yes, and I remember thinking that the facemask was going to be a game changing bad call. But Detroit bailed out the refs and Washington with the 12 men on field. I bet Washington would not have converted and Detroit goes on to win. That play by Detroit will go down as one of the big ones in Detroit's agonizing NFL history, along with Dan's refusal against us last year to kick the field goal to go up 17 points midway through the 3rd to pretty much seal the game.

I think Commanders were either 2/2 or 2/3 at that point in 4th down conversions, so it was definitely doable for the Commanders.

Dak Prescott was trying to get paid as a top QB but was not relied upon like a top QB. He hasn't had one season as good as Purdy in 2023, and his first three seasons he was being carried by Ezekiel Elliott.

Jameis Winston lol.

Deshaun Watson was extended by Houston during his rookie contract.

Mitch Trubisky lol.

Lamar Jackson was still transitioning to a pro QB/passer rather than just an athlete throwing the football. A very special case that required extra time for both sides to settle into. Does not apply to Purdy's situation at all.

Daniel Jones lol.

The ONLY one of these that applies to Purdy's situation is Dak. And as many have shown, the Cowboys not extending him during his rookie contract ended up costing them WAY more money, and it's why they're in such a bad cap situation right now.
Has anyone seen Dan Campbell's press conference. To see him break down crying would be the icing on the cake for me

For the 1st three QTRs yes...but offenses are the ones who can put games away by sustaining drives...taking advantage of their possessions and scoring points. Instead of the defense holding on for dear life, and eventually being physically and mentally tired after constantly being on the field late in the game.

You just have to have it on both sides of the ball in almost every case. You don't have to be elite on both sides, but you at least have to take advantage of opportunities when you aren't.
I still can't believe Dan played his starters against us this season. The game was meaningless. How foolish was that. Rest your players for the Vikings game next week. But I will take it. He gave us the loss which gave us better draft position and last place schedule. It only hurt the Lions because we will be healthy and contending next year.
I know you all want Brock to get paid. Don't worry, he will

what is indisputable? i'm not even an alex guy. i got tired of alex. but i do understand the situation he walked into, vs the situation brock walked into. they were not the same. brock i am sure struggles in 2005, and alex no doubt is better set up in 2022. alex won like 100 games, it's way too early to be doing brock purdy career comps with guys who played a long time.

Purdy was better in 2023 than Alex Smith was at any time in his career.

just hard to say that with all the variables around the QB being different. QB is very much a game of what is around you to work with, who is your playcaller, etc. we just saw that with brock. brock's situation changed, and the bottom fell out. we finished in last place.

i would say something like the 2023 49ers had a better O than any Smith O perhaps. that sounds correct. brock plays a role in 2023 so does kyle, trent, cmc, BA, kittle, deebo, those are not bad players and coaches. my theory is a ton of QBs like alex once he became functional, could thrive in that situation, like brock did.

Alex threw to Hill Maclin and Kelce and ended up with like 15 tds lol. He had Hill Kelce and the NFL rush leader in 2017 along with a good line. That's a better #1, a better receiving TE, the nfls top rusher, better OL, and he still couldn't do better as a 12 year vet than second year Brock

2017 Chiefs offense takes a giant dump on the 2023 Niners offense. Put Purdy on that 2017 Chiefs team and they win the Super Bowl.

Yea but Nick Wright called us the avengers so people literally act like we had Jefferson Chase and Hill at receiver, along with the Eagles OL. The Lions offense rivaled us last year and there are better offenses this year, but we got the avengers label

Trevor isn't the only example. It's disrespect to tell him he shouldn't be paid the same as the guys he compares to. How is it not?

We aren't telling him that, and disrespecting a locked-in player is the least of our concerns, IMO. That's why they created the franchise tag,... which is something we dont even need for the QB position this year.

I sincerely hope we dont use the Jaguars as a model of how to run an organization, though.

It's using the league as a model, not the jags lol

As I keep saying, this is America, and capitalism. Our pay is based on our value relative to our peers. These guys all know that Purdy is in the top 10ish class of QB's, but want to pay him like a journeyman/stop gap QB. And the only argument is "the other QB's are all overpaid."

It's so dumb. We've had this 900k qb window and what happened? Our team has gotten worse lol. Since the Jimmy days, where have we improved? We got CMC, but that's pretty much it. We were a better team when we were paying a qb lol. We used to have a great defense. We used to win in both trenches. That started to slip last year and it was completely gone this year. We had the cheap qb window and got worse
