Solak is an analytics nerd with no inside connections. He's speculating because that's what he thinks they should do.

They won't do that.

Know why? Because the people who are making the decisions to sign him would be basically betting against themselves by not signing him.

Think about it.

The price only goes up with time assuming Brock plays well and the team is doing well again. The price only goes down if the team is s**tting the bed again.

You pay him now when you have more leverage and you pay him now to avoid distractions and disaster like happened last year because we waited around(tho not all the teams fault on Aiyuk deal)

if 6 years $370m is the asking, well i'd draw the line at 5 years 205m. and he can negotiate a deal with his agent with other clubs. that's how you find out another team wants him for $370m or not. what strikes me here is SF is not very creative with their options. they have all but announced he's coming back, shanny saying he's QB for life or something to that effect. so they seem content to pay him and make their bed so to speak. i would seek a team friendly deal or explore other options.

This ongoing argument over Brock's ability is silly. It's not an great vs bust argument. I hasven't seen many people say he's terrible. Most of his criticsa merely point out some of his deficiencies. It doesn't mean he's sucks or can't win. He's shown he's good enough in the right circumstances.

Fans that love Brock should accept him for what he is and stop trying to make him into a top 5 QB. His physical limitations are always going to be there. Hopefully his strong points will continue to overcome the lack of any physical abilities.

And the so called "critics" pointing out his deficiencies for stupid reasons. QBs don't get paid per arm strength. There isn't a pricing chart for size.

QBs get paid for their accomplishments and how they play within the team willing to pay them and what the team believes they can do moving forward.

The bulk of the conversation lately has been "he's not good enough to pay big money" and that's when posters try to point out how he's not Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, etc as if that has anything to do with how things work in the NFL.

If we're here to play dumb then I guess let's keep it going. I'm sure the 49ers will check our posts to figure out whether Brock is worth paying...or you know they'll trust their inside knowledge of what Brock is or isn't and what he can or cannot do in this offense.

However odds are that the people in here fighting tooth and nail to claim Brock isn't worth a new deal will be here coping in a month or two when the deal is done for the very simple reason - we have nobody better and nobody better available to get. When that happens - you pay.

like others have said, it's just one trait. He's shown he's damn good at other things like processing, anticipation, pocket presence and running Kyle's offense. I'd say that's more important.

But there's a reason why he's 28th in the league at completing tight window throws (over the past two seasons). Throwing a ball downfield isn't about arm strength necessarily. Every single QB in the NFL can do that…if you can't throw a football 40 yards downfield, you will never make it the NFL.

Good question. Maybe the QB annual on PFF? I looked and it's down for whatever reason.

I'm going off of what Dalton Wasserman of PFF said in that Barrows article about Brock.

PFF's Wasserman noted that Purdy hasn't been particularly good on tight-window throws, attempts on which there is a yard or less of separation between the defender and target. It's the kind of throw at which big-armed passers like Justin Herbert, Russell Wilson and Sam Darnold excelled in 2024. Over the past two seasons, Purdy ranks 28th in PFF's passing grade on those types of throws.

"Purdy's never been particularly great at it," Wasserman said. "It all relates to the question: What is it he can and can't do?"

PFF doesn't track tight window throws that I can see. They track big time throws(BTT) which they define as "a pass with excellent ball location and timing, generally thrown further down the field and/or into a tighter window"

Just for clarity

Last season Brock was tied for 10th in the NFL in total BTT and tied for 8th in BTT%

Both numbers were better than Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson. Josh Allen was tied for 3rd in BTT% with 6.0, Brock was at 5.8.

This season...where I'm sure we can agree a lot of things went poorly, including inconsistency at the receiver position and Aiyuk's injury hurting us.

Brock dropped to tied for 22nd in total BTT and 30th in BTT%, once again that BTT% was slightly higher than Patrick Mahomes who was tied for 34th and Mahomes had just 3 more BTT this season while playing in 1 more game.

So what do we think happened? MAYBE the issues across the offense affected Brock or did he forget how to throw the ball?

Great...they figured out how to play 2022 Brock so well he was a finalist for the MVP in 2023 and had us with a lead every time he stepped onto the field in the 4th quarter and OT of the SB.

They sure did figure it out!
