Being a constant cellar dweller is no fun whatsoever. Losing in the playoffs means you had some good times along the way, and at least had a chance to win it all.

I'll never understand the idea that losing a ton in the regular season is preferable to winning a lot in the regular season and making the playoffs. Sure, you can be more numb to it or ignore it far easier, but there's zero entertainment value, too. If you never make the playoffs you can never win. Are people suggesting the 1960s Niners were preferable to the 2011-2014 and 2019-2023 Niners? That's just dumb.

the whole game is so QB centric. we only won with montana and steve. in today's game it's even more QB centric. brady and mahomes have ran the league for 25 years. now if you have a manning ok you can go toe to toe with brady and maybe win some. i dont see any manning in this era to challenge mahomes so he just gets em all i guess. is what it is. i'll update when the reality changes.

Eh, they both received/receive a lot of help, too. Montana threw what became "The Catch"... Brady has the tuck rule. Mahomes and the Chiefs are manufactured Champions.

What I mean is the NFL is nothing like it used to be. Changed over time to be more superstar driven, and now it seems way out of hand.

The league is top heavy now with the heavy hitters being in the AFC. People say parity, but all it has done is magnify having a great qb. The rules and refs don't help either. If defenses were able to play like back in the 80's Brady would have retired at 35.

What I don't get are the folks against paying Purdy. What is their alternative?

So who is this franchise guy you suggest we go get? Sam Darnold? Daniel Jones?

you literally need mahomes or a QB on that level. brady and mahomes have won every ring of the last 100 years if my memory is correct. they have won more than our entire franchise. so you can pay a good not great QB and you will watch the truly great QB win the ring every season. all the other lil stuff we shuffle around every offseason means nothing

Is Jalen Hurts on that level?

Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen are the only QBs on his level. How many SBs have they been to?

If he was "good enough" this season 49ers make the playoffs. We all hope he gets back to 2023 Brock.

Give him the Chiefs defense and special teams and I can guarantee you he would've been good enough to make the playoffs.

People love to overlook the drastic regression injury related or otherwise this year all around Brock save a handful of players and pretend other QBs would somehow make chicken salad out of that chicken sh*t.

That is really what it is. I had this conversation with a friend that statistically speaking a fairly decent team should draft 4-5qb in one draft lol

Look at it this way, we passed on Mahomes. Just missed out on, but probably weren't interested in Allen. Then we traded the farm for Lance who was a miss for sure.

Then snagged a gem in Purdy. Imo so much of it is circumstance and luck, but what coaches and teams need to do is try to setup the team to be in those positions as much as possible. IMO Kyle and John havent done that, certainly not at QB or oline.

I kind of agree with Kyle. Draft should be right after the season, then free agency. This would allow more teams to draft BPA vs needs and bpa etc, but the NFPLA will protect their own players so it all adds up to what we have today.

Jackson and Allen are very obviously not on his level. Clear talent gap last night.

Should the chiefs asks for money back?

They were 15-2 (home-field advantage). Did you happen to watch yesterday?

If they care more about stats than results, sure.

But they have only lost 2 times this year because the dude simply does just enough to win games, time and time again.

A perfect example of why you can toss all of those stats in the garbage come playoff time (if you reached the playoffs) was displayed on the field last nite.

What shows up on game tapes should lead discussions here if we're talking ability. You can then follow that up with anecdotal stats.

Holy s**t man you argue what you want to argue.

The point was extreme for a reason. I've never moved Mahomes off my elite QB rankings and have had him #1 regardless of what was happening this year.

Their TEAM record including the win yesterday involves special teams and defense. The point wasn't that Mahomes isn't an amazing QB, it was that as amazing as he is when there are issues to his offense just like every other QB he's not playing his best football.

Clearly, i'm disagreeing with that premise! Of course i'm arguing against things I choose...like everyone else.

You related perhaps payback due to less stats than when he has Tyrique Hill running wild. Joke or not, you're directly linking stats to payment in that case and ignoring a 15-2 season record where game after game, he's doing just enough to win the contest.

You can't skip the eyetest and begin discussing money due to stats. Last night was a perfect example of this,....so naturally, I'm going to highlight it!

You can highlight whatever you want. How about highlighting the KC defense holding a 3 point lead with 3+ minutes to play to win the game?

I think if you squint hard enough you can see Mahomes on the sidelines calling in that play for Spagnulo! Amazing stuff!

You're one of the most annoying posters on here jumping on the smallest of minutia to make arguments that aren't there in the first place. My talk about Mahomes giving money back was clearly made in jest.

If you can't keep up then save your over analysis for someone else.

In close, one-score games, the 2024 San Francisco 49ers went 2-6. In games decided by a field goal or less, the 49ers went 1-3.

KC just won its NFL record 17th straight game decided by one score.

one team decimated by injury and one team at full strength (still had a down year) .. why would you ignore that to make this weak take

Just draft the next Mahomes of course. Easy peasy.

The reality is that the Defense and the Special Teams were the big problems this season, the offense was not.
And you're right give Purdy the Chiefs or the Eagles Defense and the Niners would have been in the PO. Hell with the Packers Defense, the Niners would have been a threat in the NFC.

You're not gonna win a Superbowl just because you have an elite QB. Joe Burrow had probably the best season of his career and what happened? The Steelers with their mediocre offense made the PO and not them.
Again, the Niners would have won the Superbowl last year if the Special Teams just did their job. And that was a Niners Team that had a good not great defense.
I'm not saying Purdy is an elite QB. He's not Joe Burrow or Josh Allen and certainly not Mahomes. But damn he's good, really good. And he's only 25 years old. He's not in his prime. He can improve. It would be a giant mistake to not re-sign him. He's gonna get a giant contract with the Niners or another team, we all should deal with it I think.
