He's our guy no doubt and who knows, he may be considered Elite some day but one year riding the bench for most of it, one excellent year, and one very average year makes it impossible to classify him long term. Let's hope for Elite Brock long term. I love the guy as a guy. Everything I envision our QB to be..
Hes not ready for the $60m yet. John will prove this if it takes till August.
What incredible talent? You can make the argument that having mechanics as horrible as his and still not completely sucking is talent, but then you'd have to say the same thing about Jeff Garcia.
I do agree that most Brock defenders make bad arguments. He was the best QB in football in 2023. He did not play well in 2024.
Are we really going to question Mahomes' talent now? I would like to see him play in a different offense but that's the same thing people say about Purdy so it's hypocritical to harp on that.
Only difference is I'm not saying Purdy is elite and he's a great QB for this offense which is heavily based on timing and anticipation, things that Brock does at a high level.
Kurt Warner is a good listen when it comes to talking about difference in QB play, it's not all one way or the highway situation. You can play good football as a QB in different ways.
Lamar does what he does. Allen plays the position differently, Mahomes is his own guy. But you also have a QB like Jalen Hurts close to another SB title. Purdy last year just needed a defensive stop at the end to beat the great Mahomes and the Chiefs and he was doing it as a 2nd year player behind a weak OL.
We'll find out next weekend whether Hurts can win it playing his game or if Mahomes gets another scalp. I know I'm not picking against the Chiefs until someone beats them with a healthy team and Reid/Spags coaching them.
But back to Brock…saying he didn't play well last year is a bit harsh. He didn't play well based on his own standard set. Just like Mahomes didn't play well based on his own standard set until he was able to get Hopkins via trade and Hollywood Brown came back - suddenly his numbers started going back up.
Every QB even the greats like Mahomes need consistency and talent around them to look their best. For all the crap Brock got this year if the defense holds we are in the playoffs. That's not even getting into the issues we had on the OL with Brendel or CMC being out most of the year and no real consistency at WR with guys missing games, Aiyuk getting hurt after coming back rusty and Pearsall and Cowing being slow to master the offense.
Considering the circumstances we had as an overall team I'm honestly impressed Brock played the way he did. Could've been way worse imo.
