Just a thought but if you're going to rely on visual judgment then it becomes pretty easy to miss some key factors unless you know what to look for.
And I'm not claiming I see it all. There are people who know this game much better than I do who certainly don't act like Purdy is mediocre or a guy who is simply a product of a system/talent around him.
But considering the majority of fans just watch the team they support and most don't bother to re-watch the game after there are a lot of bad opinions out there or opinions based on the initial watch. So that visual judgement isn't exactly a great indicator of reality either.
we had on the front page yesterday an nfl executive who said he has no clue why brock would get $60m aav. i've heard as long as purdy has been playing ppl in this thread talk about the so called experts, who rank brock as QB20. that's a couple examples of the opinion on brock, outside of the fan community. it's a ranged opinion, hardly a consensus. we know from nfl gms not that long ago he was valued at around undrafted. i'm sure that would change in a redraft, but that is another example of professional opinion at work. we just wrapped a season where NFL.com had him QB14, right behind darnold and geno. i think we should lean into this stuff. the more that opinion is out there, we get a team friendly deal. i'm not worried about brock, he's gonna be set for life. i want to see the team get a great deal.
I don't know what article you're talking about or who the nfl executive referenced in it is. Feel free to share it when you have a chance.
To me the so called experts are not all built the same. It's no different than the pre-draft conversations. Every year we have draft experts make their mock drafts, create their draft boards and when the draft rolls around guys are considered reaches by those experts who end up being terrific players and guys who the experts raved about being steals/great picks who end up being busts.
All I care about is what the 49ers think. They know Brock the best, they know what their offense SHOULD look like on any given play vs the defense on that down. They're the only ones who have all the information to make the best call of what Brock did good, what he did poorly and who is responsible for a bad play happening than any other "expert" or fan.
That's why I've been saying I trust them to make the call here with this deal and all the talk of they can't pay him X is silly. Whatever they pay him assuming a deal is done it means they looked at the tape and felt he was the guy they want to build around. I'm sure they'd love to pay him less but in the end if a deal is done then nobody should be complaining because they paid him X million more than you felt he deserved.
This is also why I refuse to say what my number for him is. I may think the story above where he'd get $250 million guaranteed and $300 million total is a joke but if that happens then CLEARLY they believe in Brock.
