jeff garcia. we thought in 2012 we had the FQB and in 2017 also.

Jeff Garcia was the best 49er QB since Young.

Now Purdy is the best 49er QB since Young.

  1. Purdy
  2. Jimmy
  3. Garcia
  4. AleX
  5. Hill
  6. Kaepernick/Gabbert
  7. Mullens
  8. Troy Smith
  9. Rattay
  10. Alex

Kap >> Alex

As bad as he regressed quickly, dude was a force for a year and a half. Alex never played anywhere close to his level.

Lol Hill.

AleX is the dude that was a force for a year and a half. Note the X at the end. X is for XTREME! Regular Alex is #10. Shaun Hill was goofy but he was still decent. If the grass was a legal receiver, Hill would be a first-ballot hall of famer and in the "regular season GOAT" conversation. As bad as Kaepernick was as a passing quarterback, he doesn't really get enough credit for what he was able to accomplish in his one year under Chip Kelly. That offense had like 3 plays.

I was wondering if JT O'sullivan should be on the list. then I remembered the game I went to at the stick when he started in 2008. Not what I would call a fun game
edit. beaten by Pats. didn't even get to see Brady. it was frickin Matt Cassell

I think paying Purdy will be a mistake.. Just my opinion which isn't worth a darn.. But he doesn't elevate players around him but can be an excellent distributor with all the right pieces in place. Idk... I would make him play out his 5th year.. Or give him a one year pay bump then talk next off season..

He doesn't have a fifth year option. it would be his fourth year.

I think that would be a tremendous mistake. He is a good player and just finding a good qb is hard enough. if we pay him 50-55 mil - t hat'll be a super discount in a year or two from now.

I think it would be dumb to not pay him. We have an excellent chance to win with brock, as long as the team is healthy and players children aren't passing away or players getting shot. as long as our defense isn't the worst in the league in the fourth. as long as we don't have the absolute worst special teams in the league.

Last season is an outlier. Everything is going to be fine, we will rebound this up coming season and be in contention for the super bowl again. if we won 6 games with that abysmal team last year, we can win 10+ with a half way decent defense and ST.

Geo's best yr (2022) stat wise was identical to Brock's best yr (2023).

Man don't do this…this is such a disingenuous take I refuse to believe that you posted that with any conviction.

Aiyuk became an impact receiver once Purdy took over. Jennings looked like a WR1 with Brock throwing to him.

Are we sure he's not elevating the guys around him? Plenty of examples of him compensating for poor pass protection. Plenty of examples of him making plays out of scheme and his ability to throw with anticipation and layer his passes over defenders certainly improves the play of the guys he's throwing to. Just cuz he's not Brady or Mahomes doesn't mean he's simply a point guard out there.

People are going to say Allen's new contract is a steal in 2 years when Lamar, Stroud, Mahomes, and Hurts all get extensions in the next 3 years. The 49ers would need to give Purdy a 324.6M/5 extension (64.92M extension AAV) to equal Allen's 330M/6 total contract (55M total AAV). And now the Ravens are talking about Lamar topping Allen before next offseason.

Yeah, we all know there's a narrative to push there. We also all know that Purdy is better on every single level than Geno Smith, except choking, Geno has him on that one. The anticipation throws and the accuracy for starters, then there's the playoff performances and the ability to extend plays.

Still a top 10 qb (#7-8 imo) with room for improvement. Imagine if he had an Oline that could pass protect

And he has room to grow. I don't understand how folks say s**t with such conviction. Dude has had a pretty promising start to his very young career. This goes back to the point if he was a first round pick, people would be using his more frequent examples of successes as evidence that he's a promising young talent that is still a work in progress. The guy does a few things at an elite level, and if that continues to develop, he could still be quite special.

yeah, QB Contracts quickly escalate. Jimmy's was a record at the time and then very quickly was an average QB Pay. You can't wait on them because they become a lot more very quick.

just lock him in and let's get this show on the road. Especially with the way the cap is escalating. It is what it is.
Mid-tier QB's shouldn't have so many fanboys.

"But but but Brock isn't a mid-tier QB"

Well....we all know he isn't a top-tier QB so..........
