Jeff Garcia was the best 49er QB since Young.

Now Purdy is the best 49er QB since Young.

  1. Purdy
  2. Jimmy
  3. Garcia
  4. AleX
  5. Hill
  6. Kaepernick/Gabbert
  7. Mullens
  8. Troy Smith
  9. Rattay
  10. Alex

Jimmy over Jeff?

Yea. Jeff was a much more inaccurate passer. Threw a bunch of dirt balls, but wasn't exactly on Shaun Hill's level. Had Jerry and TO to bail him out on those terrible jump throws and shoestring catches. His happy feet was a detriment to the pass protection. He actually had nice arm strength when he was throwing balls outside of games, but in games, his arm strength was just average. His biggest Ws are Carmella and the 2002 Wild Card game. Solid regular season quarterback that was ultra-competitive, tough guy mentality, and maxxed out his limitations, but at no point did I ever feel like Garcia could win a Super Bowl with any of his teams. So yea, Jimmy over Jeff, but it's not a huge gap. Purdy >>>> Jimmy/Jeff/AleX >>>> Hill/Kaep/Gabbert >>>>> the rest >>>>>>>>>>> Alex under Nolan > Others not named...

edit - Been awhile since I looked up the stats, but I believe Jimmy was slightly ahead of him there too.

Now we can finally settle the debate of Trey Lance vs Brock Purdy.

Lance>Purdy and its not even close.

Great 49ers gift ideas

His 2025 compensation is fully guaranteed at signing (37.5M). 17.5M of his 27.5M 2026 compensation is guaranteed against injury at signing, vesting into a full guarantee 5 days after this years Super Bowl. That brings the "total guarantees" in the contract to 55M.

Geno had 31M and 1 year remaining on his old deal (edit - 16M of which was a roster bonus that became guaranteed, maybe already paid, on 3/16/2025). This extension adds 2 years and 75M in new cash bringing his total contract to 106M over 3 years (35.3M total AAV). The extension adds 3.5M in yearly incentives, maxxing Geno out at 116.5M (38.8M max AAV). The "total guarantees" in the contract is 66.5M, but we have no idea how much is guaranteed at signing at this point.

More details on Geno's deal.

  • 116.5M over 3 years max. (38.8M max AAV)
    • 106M over 3 years. 58.5M fully guaranteed-at-signing. 66.5M total guaranteed. (35.3M total AAV)
      • 2025 compensation of 40.0M (up from 31M). 40M fully guaranteed-at-signing.
      • 2026 compensation of 26.5M. 18.5M fully guaranteed-at-signing. The remaining 8M is guaranteed for injury at signing and becomes fully guaranteed on the third day of the 2026 league year.
      • 2027 compensation of 39.5M. Not guaranteed.
    • 10.5M total in incentives.
      • 3.5M in incentives per year.

The extension added 75M in new cash and 2 years (37.5M extension AAV). If he hits all his incentives, his extension AAV hits 42.75M, giving him the opportunity to get the 40-45M he wanted from Seattle. Las Vegas has outs every year if they want to take it.

So to you it's simply top tier, mid tier and low tier then?

Let's see your QB tiers broken down since you're so eager to tell other fans what they should think.

Don't expect you to understand how a WR who keeps getting open down the field only to have the QB take a shorter throw would improve with a QB actually more willing to throw down the field and take those shots vs the safe short stuff.

Florio may never become even an average reporter, so why should anyone care what he thinks?

Five years or six years? Pretty massive difference between $50M and $60M.

I hope not. That will sink this team. Purdy is not elite.

No, it won't. The Bills just gave Allen a 330M/6 year contract (55M total AAV). The 49ers would need to give Purdy a 324.6M/5 extension to equal Allen. That's an extension AAV of 64.95M. This isn't 2023/2024. The cap has grown. The cap will continue to grow naturally year-to-year. The salary cap will get a boost when the league opts out of the current media deal in 2029. The salary cap will get a boost when the league and players renegotiate the splits on the revenue sharing in 2030. Purdy at 60M will be like 10th after the next wave of QB contracts getting QBs to 75M+ extension AAVs.

Allen is elite, purdy is not.
