Mahomes didn't get awarded last year. He's obviously not a great quarterback.

Jalen Hurts didn't win offensive player of the week. Wasn't named to the pro-bowl. Wasn't named to the AP teams. Didn't finish in the top-5 of the yearly AP awards. Jalen Hurts didn't even get a Slimetime NVP award in 2024 but Brock Purdy did! Brock Purdy > Jalen Hurts in 2024!

Jalen Hurts' cap hit % was 5.3% this past year so I'm okay with that,...lol. Mahomes is in a separate category in and of his own, IMO.

I'm not talking about who won it, either. I referred to nominations,...as in being a finalist. Brock won it once in 2023 but was a finalist for it 3x's.

Is it my only measure of who played great and who did not? No, it isin't.

Is it a measure that backs up my thesis statement? Of course it is. Do I need to write an extended essay on a forum listing everything I possibly can to backup or prove my "thesis" that Brock wasn't a great player in 2024?

Of course I don't ,...you can have that if those here enjoy that style of needless posting.

I'm going to be alot more concise, as virtually everyone here knows that Brock wasnt a "great QB" in 2024. The usual idea/expectation is for you to refute it with proof that he was instead of creating hairbrained assumptions the other poster never said like the only measurement ever of an NFL QB is Offensive POTW honors.

That only fills up the thread with needless "I never said or suggested that" posts as responses. Come up with something different.

In 2023 when we were healthy and had weapons galore, he was awesome. In 2024, far from great.

Weekly award nominations is your measure of greatness... And yes, it is the only criteria because it's the only thing you brought up when asked to define it. Of course you don't need to explain yourself. You watch tape. You have feelings. Apparently EVERYONE here knows that Brock wasnt a "great QB" in 2024, whatever "great" actually means.

edit - For the edited part of your comment

I did refute you. I also asked you to define "great" and you are the one that said weekly awards. You said it. Whether it's winners or nominations is irrelevant. It's a terrible metric. Also, nominations

Nobody else can come up with something different to keep you on topic. This is a "you" problem.

Define great... because he had a great season in 2024. He wasn't perfect. He forced some balls. But he still played pretty great. The team as a whole sucked. He wasn't the reason the team sucked. In 2025, we'll still have weapons. Hopefully we won't be as injury riddled as we were in 2024. It's almost like we can point to recent history where the team struggled through injuries one year and bounced back the next.

I've mentioned the Jalen Hurts deal likely being comparable to what Brock will get many times in here, even months ago. I'm pretty sure you were giving me a hard time about it then.

Now you're good with it…so why the back and forth then?

It seems like lots of people don't know what you're talking about since it seems like your posts tend to be you talking down other people or laughing at what they say without ever actually making your own stance clear.

Do us all a favor and simplify it. What do you want done with Brock. Maybe that will help eliminate some confusion.
It's a clear contrast between Brock's 2023 and 2024 years. There's plenty others.

This is kinda like thinking every definition has only one word or spelling, then following it up by scouring internet archives for it. Funny stuff.

You think he was a great player in 2024 and he'll get everything he wants in his contract eventually before the season begins. We'll see!

I'm good with Jalen Hurts deal? Or his 2024 cap hit? I havent commented on Jalen Hurts' full deal very much, but another poster said his cap hit was 20% in 2024 and in reality, it was a fraction of that.

It's complete hindsight but @ a 5.3% clip....you couple his level of play with what they were able to achieve and it appears from far to be Super!

With Brock here,...we're all trying to have foresight. Different perspective, yet posters are going to force comparisons anyways.

The back and forth is likely because you get very aggressive with posters that suggest he may not be worth huge amounts of money and that we need to play it safe, given his limited window of great play.

Jalen Hurts and Purdy's situations are different. BTW,...have you not noticed recurring themes of posters like the one that said that saying absolutely off-the-wall stuff (like we are insulting/disrespecting Brock,...or Jalen's 20% cap hit that never happened in 2024)..... you completely ignoring it.... then you getting on those that respond to it?

Lol....dude...it's literally the same exact poster...but instead of saying a word to him....you have all this energy for the posters that correct him.

Wash, Rinse, Repeat. You reply to what you choose to, though. Fine with me.

That's why I asked you to define "great". And the only thing you could point to in your responses since is weekly award nominations

Yes, I think he was a great player in 2024. He was a top-10 quarterback, which is well above the average, and he did that without his RB1, RB2, WR1, WR2, and LT on offense, a struggling defense, and an inept special teams unit. He wasn't the reason the team sucked last year. Now imagine getting back their RB1, WR1, LT, and replacement level players as the team moves into the next competitive roster window.

Lol no no. We're not playing that game again. Maybe you could make a new poll on who thinks Brock was a great QB in 2024 and see how you do?

But here in this thread, I think the board has had enough of that. Enjoy your Easter weekend Type-C.

It's not a game. You have this bar set at "great", you should define it. Obviously you won't do it. I'll message Cohn to make a blog post on SI defining "great" so you can copy-and-paste that here for us.
I'm not the only poster out there that has a similar sentiment.

He says very good....I'm saying great. Don't get caught up in the actual word too much or you -- once again -- get completely lost. The main reason some fans are scared of a huge, long deal for Brock right now is right along the same lines. People can say the same things and share the same viewpoint in a plethora of different ways, Type-C.

If you're trying to again obsess over very good/great, etc., you venture far away from the context of the initial concern many of us have with a deal like that RIGHT NOW. Another year like 2023 and many of us would be alot more comfortable with $200M+ GTD and 5 yrs.

Like I said,...you can do a poll on it. My personal definition of what constitutes "great QB play" doesn't matter much. Try instead to grasp the overall sentiment of what we're saying.

Just out of curiosity, would you list your top 10 QBs of 2024 and define what parameters you're using to populate the list?

  1. Lamar
  2. Goff
  3. Mayfield
  4. Allen
  5. Burrow
  6. Hurts
  7. Purdy
  8. Tagovailoa
  9. Daniels
  10. Mahomes

Basing my list on passing epa/play, efficiency under pressure, efficiency behind a clean pocket, 3rd down conversion rate, passing success rate, ANY/A, Y/G, on-target rate, bad throw rate, td rate, aggressiveness (Y/A, nearby defender difficulty when attacking zones, separation distance when attacking man), air yards rates (CAY per attempt, CAY per cmp, AAY to the stick).

How about you?

Is their placement in the list a product of a formula you're using, like an average of their ranks in these metrics as a basic example, or are you making a judgement call looking at the numbers as a whole etc?

I'm assuming these are regular season numbers only.

As a whole. The numbers include playoffs.

Thinking about just playoffs now, I kinda want to go through comments of those postseason game threads and see everyone meme'ing about Purdy getting paid off of specific poor performances. Herbert might have been trash but he's #1 in my hair & rocket arm rankings!

Lol, those were pretty embarrassing. I would bet 32 out of 32 teams would take Herbert over Purdy.

Interesting list in any case. I think mine would include 7-8 of the same choices, in different order mostly.
