I don't want to see us pay him and then regret it. I don't like the long term contract for him, yet. I don't think he is a guy with ""nothing left to prove". In fact, I think the opposite in that he has much more to prove before making giving him elite QB money.
I'll bite. What do you think he has to prove? That he can dominate and win games with an injury plagued offense missing key pieces with a defense that can't stop the run or hold leads and a special teams that's good for one horrible play a game minimum?
And for the record if you dig into Mac Jones' leadership stuff from the NFL...it's not pretty. I live in NE and get lots of Patriots info on the local news and most of my friends/family are Pats fans. That is not a quality that jumps at you from Mac Jones.
Also for like the millionth time, the whole 50M+ annually thing is a red herring. Cap hits are the only thing that matters as is guaranteed money if things go south.
49ers in this ownership/front office(Paraag) has given out the highest QB contract twice now and both times they protected themselves from disaster pretty well. I expect them to do it again.
