Am I saying Purdy will be the next Brady? Absolutely not. Am I saying our season got any easier? Absolutely not.
But what I don't get is this sudden notion from half the NFL fanbase that we have zero chance of winning the Super Bowl now. The
only metric that says we won't is that no rookie QB has ever gotten to one. That's it. Otherwise, a meh QB has entered the season in December and won it (Nick Foles), a QB acquired lower than the last pick in the draft has won it (Kurt Warner) and a QB that had a negative impact for his team won it (Trent Dilfer). All within this century.
Purdy looked good against a good team and he played practically the whole game yesterday. He even looked good in the preseason too minus one play. The only time he didn't look so good was in mop-up duty against the Chiefs, but I care more about 3.5 very relevant quarters yesterday than I do 0.5 garbage time quarters two months ago.
We love Jimmy, and he was playing well this year, but the majority of people already forgot that he has been
awful in the playoffs. Downright putrid. A 74 passer rating and his best game was the loss to the Rams where we scored 17. From that perspective, I don't see how Purdy can be much of a downgrade, and we're still 4-2 in the playoffs with Jimmy being atrocious in basically every one of those games.
Maybe teams will watch tape and Purdy will magically suck next week or within a month, idk. But to say the season is already done is ludicrous. We're 8-4 and Purdy looked confident, poised, mobile enough to escape pressure and accurate enough to make tight throws, all against a good team for virtually the whole game. I'm going to wait until the season is done before throwing in the towel. There's a first for everything in this league.
