After watching Brock finish the regular season I realized he had a 5 game stretch just like jimmy did in his first season with the 49ers. Did some research to see how they compared to each other in their respective starts.

Jimmy G first 5 starts 2017: 5-0 record

Completions / attempts %

120 / 178 67%

Yards - Average yards

1560 yards - 8.8 avg.

TD's - INT - sacks

7 - 5 - 8

Brock purdy first 5 starts 2022: 5-0 record

Completions / attempts %

114 / 170 67%

Yards - Average yards

1374 yards - 8.2 avg.

TD's - INT - sacks

13 - 4 - 10

Let's hope it turns out better.

But they did it differently. Purdy has made this all happen within shanahans system. Not playing "backyard ball". I'll admit that i was crazy about Jimmy after that but Purdy has just done it differently, regardless of what the stats say.

both played awesome but Purdy played awesome within a system, Jimmy struggled as soon as he started playing in it and the got hurt. He's never been the same since.

And there is a KEY difference between the two.

TD-INT....
7-5 vs 13-4

This is not a trivial difference.

I also feel like passer rating was left out of this intentionally.

Left it out because I dont know how to calculate it and the website only had 4 games for Brock so I had to add in all of todays stats.

Brock before today was 104 rating

jimmy in his 5 games was 96.2

No,...I dont think he has loads of talent. You think he does,....I don't share that opinion.

There are HOF QBs though that don't necessarily have loads of talent. So what? lol.

Remember the last QB you chased me around about? How'd that turn out for you?

I dont think there's a rule here that says everyone has to agree with you.

State your case and move on.

Random49er thinks we should be rockin with Trey (if healthily) and sees him as the future.

i disagree but it's a fair opinion of his. I feel the opposite but doesn't mean he doesn't know football.

his draft position means f**k all.

I'm just trying to understand why you're giving random s**t for an opinion that was shared by at least 31/32 teams in the league and most of this forum until about 5 weeks ago.

because the kid has now played in 5.90 games and has proven that he is indeed talented and was obviously underdrafted.

redo the 2022 Draft today and Purdy is picked much much much higher.

absolutely. Purdy would go first round in hindsight. I'm actually baffled at the takes of some posters here about Purdy. It's comical. I get being cautious in our optimism, but this is the best QB play we have seen in over a decade. Maybe two. So, I'm not goimg to claim he is 'the one', but so far I couldn't be more pleased with what he has done vs what we expected. He is playing like a top 10 QB in this league right now.

Some of the caution might be related to the fact that we've been burned before by a QB looking great for their first 5 games and then never quite reaching that level again.

No doubt. But Purdy's first 5 were better than Jimmy's first 5. Just the TD-INT ratio alone makes them significantly different.

Jimmy was a vast improvement from what we had previously, so our expectations then were lower as well. i think our expectations have gone up dramatically thanks to Jimmy. I'm hlad he will be gone, but he did help this team learn how to win despite his limitations. But now he is our anchor. Sorry, WAS our anchor.

Believe me, I'm nervous about this too. it feels too good to be true. But he keeps passing test after test. As a rookie... Who wasn't even expected to make the roster when drafted. Who by physical standards would be mostly overlooked.

Even when he started slow and shaky a couple times, he turns it around instead of shelling up. He has the mental makeup. No doubt in my mind at this point. Does he have some limitations? Sure. He isn't going to rifle 60+ yard bombs. Do we need him to? I think he can stretch it enough to keep defenses honest. I like his accuracy. His timing will get better with more time. It's pretty good already. Just a small improvement will have our YAC yards explode. He has started 5 games. He is going to improve. Scary thought for other teams I think.

He threw another 2TDs and 1 Int against the Dolphins and another Int against the Chiefs in week 7.

that's right. Thanks for catching that

I'd have to go do the math but Purdy's is way higher than 104 for his first 5 starts. The 104 includes his previous sample time and the Dolphins game. His starts are 134, 117, 114.6, 95.4, and 141.3. I can tell you by looking that average would be way higher than 104.

Probably wouldn't calculate the same as the cumulative stats for those starts, but just averaging those ratings would put it at 120.46

Time to play like you have been for four more games.

Be an asset in the playoffs unlike your predecessor.

Based on eye test I think you can.

Let's get it.
Since taking the field against Miami:

161 pass attempts over 6 games
8.1 YPA
13 TD's and 3 INT's
Zero fumbles
112.02 passer rating
33 points per game
6-0

Also has a rushing TD and 0.6 YPC.

Even 2017 Jimmy didn't have numbers anywhere close to this.

Super Star.

Drew Brees. With poor mans Russell Wilson mobility.

He throws touchdowns and wins games.

It's a massive step, but this is the next step we need to see from him.

As much as we love Jimmy, he had a sub-75 passer rating in the playoffs. That's very bad. Honestly astonishing we went 4-2 with him (and his best playoff performance was in one of those two losses).

It won't be easy. We can't get down on himmif he doesn't get it done this year. But I think he can too. I just know that for any rookie to win 9 starts in a row, 10 games, is a highly unlikely event. But he has as good or better chance than anyone in history to accomplish this kind of incredible feat. I'm excited to watch.

Breese/Wilson hybrid??? 🤔🤔🤔 Interesting... That combo on this team would win a lot of Superbowls

Thanks for gathering those numbers. I knew my 'estimate' wasn't quite correct. These numbers are crazy impressive.

He was just given a HUGE gift playing Seattle in the 1st round and possibly the Vikings in the 2nd round. Many QBs would win these two games against those team with our roster.

I expect the NFC title game at minimum where he will need to be at his best to get us to the Super Bowl over Philly.

I think that's a fairly reasonable expectation, unless you are talking about writing him off if he loses before that. Everyone eventually has a let down game. Usually before now. If one happens, it happens. But I'm not expecting one.
