Exactly.

It's never easy playing quarterback in the NFL, but Purdy might as well have the softest landing pad to work with. The 49ers are so good that Purdy's evident limitations (happy feet and poor mechanics, hello!) in the pocket probably won't come back to bite them against the Seahawks.

and was like … really? That's NOT what I see at all. Someone tell me this guy doesn't know what he's talking about. (full article here)

Thanks.

To be more specific, his comment about the "happy feet and poor mechanics" had me doing the Jordan laugh.

I don't think it can be discounted how good of a situation Purdy has been put into with guys like CMC, Deebo (though he's mostly been absent during Purdy's tenure), Kittle, Aiyuk, Kyle's offense etc. He's been helped tremendously by that as any QB would be. That said, I'm not sure what the dude is talking about in terms of Purdy's mechanics or happy feet. They seem at worst fine, and actually seem pretty good. He has a very natural throwing motion and seems comfortable throwing from different arm angles. He does have a tendency to break the pocket too soon, but he is a rookie, so not that surprising.

He has great feet and excellent mechanics. It's a lot of him too. These pundits should actually watch the games.

That was my next question! "Does this guy even watch the games?"

No.

I'll use Kyle Brandt's (GMFB) comments about ranking the NFC QBs in the playoffs. The main thrust of the conversation was on how poorly the Cowboys have played, Dak Prescott in particular. Brandt began ranking the QBs with a mention of Kirk Cousins and immediately followed with "definitely Brock Purdy," as being at the top of the list of QBs better than Prescott. (Brandi discounted Jalen Hurts due to uncertainty of his physical condition.)

As others have mentioned, "happy feet and poor throwing mechanics" is just bogus nonsense.

I'm not all that sure that is a valid criticism either. Without knowing what he is seeing down the field, it is impossible to say whether he is leaving "too soon" or just realizes he has to buy time for receivers to gain separation. It may be some of both but this Zeglinski guy is just filling space.
Sure Brock got all the weapons around him, but he still has to navigate stay alive in the pocket, make the easy and the difficult throws, get the ball to his weapons. With defenses trying to wreck it on every play. He has been playing very well at the qb position. If it's easy with all the weapons, Kittle 's grandma would've toss a couple of TDs to her grandson in the last game.

Kyle really likes to call designed rollouts to the left with Brock. Not normal for a right handed QB.

It's not as much about what he's seeing down the field, imo, but about whether the pocket is clean and he decides to bail out of it anyways which I do think he has done a handful of times. Not that its some fatal flaw or major concern, but it's the only thing I can think of that the author is referring to when he says that Purdy has happy feet.

Right? And dial him up to the left in general. His spray chart looks like we only target the middle and left side of the field too; at least the last one I saw.

Anyone have any updated ones through the season?

I've noticed that too. Maybe having Trent Williams and Banks....?

Definitely abnormal. Best guess is that it has to do with Brock actually being mobile enough to do it thereby taking advantage of Trent Williams being on the left and the opponent hoping to keep their best pass rusher on the other side trying to benefit from the relative weakness of McGlinchy.
Any regular season highlight videos yet? Those are going to be 🔥🔥🔥
Maybe we've been targeting the left more with Purdy because he is unusually good at it, and defenses are more used to right handed QBs attacking them to the right.
