They are already going to have to dumb is down for Purdy.

No they won't. He knows the entire offense. So does Trey (and he did by the end of his rookie camp, as did Brock). Learning the playbook is not the issue rookies have. It's BY FAR the easiest thing for a rookie QB to get figured out. Smh.

Tebow had a playoff win too. Baker has looked terrible this year, as 5GR said. Purdy may turn out to be a one hit wonder, but Baker isn't anything special. He's not available because he's MJ holding out for a lucrative contract. He's available because he's not that good.

Baker Mayfield ranks either #31 or #32 (of 32 qualifying QBs) across the efficiency metrics. He's been objectively terrible. Would be quite a reclamation project. I think the 49ers believe in Brock Purdy and his ability to avoid backbreaking mistakes more than that

Who said Mayfield has been good this year? I would rather hope his problems were with the mess in Carolina and roll with a guy who won a playoff game recently. Then hope a 7th round rookie becomes the next Tom Brady.

I love what I saw yesterday in Brock. But it's a fairytale story. We need another insurance card. He has chemistry with CMC. Do it. It doesn't mean Brock can't start.

Bosa might flip a table if we sign Baker. I think he hates the guy

Might get him angry enough to do this on the field.

Hate to say it but he did look better out there vs. when Trey was out there. Hopefully Trey will still develop into something big, but feel a little more comfortable with Brock in the driver's seat.

Well, as it has been pointed out by a few posters now, experience matters. Purdy was a four year starter in college and played in 48 games. Lance has played in something like 20 games, or less, since he graduated from High School.

When all is said and done Lance is probably more talented with a potentially bigger upside. But in this particular set of circumstances, an elite defense with a Super Bowl caliber roster, I am not sure that Purdy doesn't put the team in a better position to succeed. Hand the ball off, make use of play action and get the ball into the hands of your playmakers on high percentage throws so that they can help carry the load.

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Go Niners!

Hopefully Bad Brock Purdy stayed at Iowa State.

Not sure if Purdy will be anything more than a good back up QB in his career. To say there is not much of a drop off between Purdy and Jimmy G after one game is simply insane. I certainly hope I am wrong.

There wasn't in ONE game. But the NFL is about to have film on him, and he's about to experience a week's worth of high pressure.

Better than raw Trey Lance and backup Nate Sudfeld. Good to know, but doesn't necessarily mean much.

There are many QBs that like to be blitzed as coverages are then simplified. Eventually, over the next few weeks, DCs will try things and figure out what Brock struggles most with, then Brock/Kyle will have to adjust.
