Kyle is gaining confidence he has a guy where he can finally move from Jimmy Dinks and Dunks. It is so obvious Kyle is calling a more aggressive game and maybe after a bunch of years he can be the play caller he's wanted to be.

And when the play doesn't work he doesn't stick his turtle head into his shell like in the past. He has confidence in Brock to go right back there again.

It's not very different. It's just being executed at a higher level. Biggest difference is taking advantage of the bootlegs.
f**k this guy lol

Wasn't bad but wasn't great. Kind of like the pick vs the Raiders.

Things to work on

A better throw would be a TD, but it wasn't bad

Yup. At least he read the D and saw the opening.

People keep forgetting he is a rookie in his like 7th start and very first playoff start in wet conditions. Keep the expectations low.

This. And the problem with Jimmy's game wasn't dinking and dunking... because Purdy and all other QB's do that. A dumpoff to CMC is not a bad option, and largely, our offense is predicated on YAC. Our offensive scheme hasn't changed to a wide open offense. The big chunk plays we hit in the last game are throws that Jimmy has made as well.
If anything, the 2 major problem for Jimmy were that he didn't have the timing/accuracy on his deep throws... and that he was OVERaggressive and would turn the ball over in pivotal moments... which is why many suspect that Shanahan doesn't trust Jimmy in certain situations. The interception he threw against Dallas last year was just killer because he was trying to make a play that wasn't there.

Purdy's definitely upgraded the offense, but I think fans need to be more accurate in why he's an upgrade.
  • He has better accuracy/timing on intermediate/deep routes, thus we're hitting more explosives.
  • He has great improvisational ability, which is allowing him to make plays off-schedule. The touchdown pass to Elijah Mitchell is a good example of this.-- He was trying to hit Aiyuk to his left, but Bruce Irvin flashed in his face... he moved away and immediately found Mitchell wide open and threw a good pass to him while on the run, for a walk-in TD.
  • You add all that together with the playcalling and the surrounding cast... defenses have been very on their heels and why we're averaging 37+ the past four games.

That first clip look at that drop back. Looks smooth as a moonwalk.

People need to have more nuance than just labeling something as only good or bad---

Firstly, I think we can all agree that it was a good decision. It was a good throw that resulted in a big gain.
But if it was a BETTER throw, where he placed the ball to the sidelines, it's a less contested catch. The receiver (Jennings?) probably can catch that ball and waltz into the endzone.

It wasn't a great throw, that really needed to go more to the outside where its likely a walk-in touchdown, he was lucky that Jennings was able to track it down and that the safety didn't jump on it. He's gotten away with a few dangerous throws, I hope he's taking notes and trying to avoid stuff like that in the future because those are the things that opposing defensive coordinators will take note of of and use against him in the future.
