He'd be a legend, the NFL's only undefeated SB winning QB. Win a Lombardi and flash deuces at everyone and bounce, go move to Costa Rica or something.

Kind of like Gotye, who promised after he got a hit he'd disappear, which he did.

11 million

Purdy doesn't cost 11 million and neither does Lance. If you guys are going to turn this into a Lance thread because no one really cares about the takes in the real Lance thread at least Google some stuff first.

Yeah, you should do that.

There's a saying about removing all doubt... and for the record, a post June 1st trade isn't all that great either, because we'd still have to pay 5+ million for a decent back up, and we're still in the red, just not as much, from Lance (5.5 million in dead money vs 3 million cap savings, minus whatever we have to pay to have a new back up in camp).

There will be no battle. Purdy has already delivered. He is QB1 this season and next. Kyle ain't going to sit Purdy to let Lance have another chance. Lance did not measure up in his 3 starts and a few cameo plays. He was too raw and the moments were too big for him. Unlike Lance, Purdy can play in the rain. He had his "monsoon game" last Saturday and faired well.

I would think Lance's agent will be working on a release of contract or ask for him to be traded so he can start somewhere but on another team. There is no way Lance will be starting at the 49ers again bar injury to Purdy.

all of this is on point
We're playing our third string QB right now. We should probably keep Trey.

Imagine thinking that will actually be an option
nvm that's a bit too stronk

yup.... good business men cut their losses, they don't keep feeding money toward bad investments... Lynch made a mistake in drafting TL, and will recover nicely from his error

Trade Lunch Trey and get what you can soon as his trade value goes down with every BCB victory
since BCB is QB1 now we no longer have the leverage we once had in dealing TL as we did when we still considered him the starter... teams are going to low ball us on a trade now... lucky to get a conditional day 2 pick at this point

Lol, I wouldn't even be mad if this happened, would be the greatest boss move ever.

"He wept, for there were no more worlds to conquer."

That line always kills me.....

That line is from John Carvil who was quoting a lost work of Plutarch.....and it is massively butchered

The actual quote for Alexander was something like he wept knowing the endless worlds left to conquer.

Alexander realized how large the planet was, so as great as Die Hard version of the quote is, it is almost exactly backwards.

Well crap. Thanks Dshearn

Edit: Interesting how often that happens… like Robert Frost and The Road Not Taken. Just what I need… to be more skeptical. Haha. Thanks though!

Well..... the misquote is better.

You have this epic actor deliver this epic line that is so poetically perfect.... I love that line

but yeah its wrong... what was actually written as not nearly as good.

I had to google it but here is the quote

"Alexander of Macedon, who, upon hearing that there were other worlds, wept that he had not yet conquered one"

To circle back to football, Alexander in his mind lost in the playoffs Lol :op

If he is NOT going to be handed the starting role then keeping him as a backup to the last player picked in the draft, only decreases his value. Keeping Lance and then maybe trading him after another year or two adds no value at all.

Also let's not forget what Anthony Lynn said about this organization, they will do whatever it takes to make it and stay at the top, The league is getting better with old heads on the way out and new and upcoming teams on the rise. Uber Talented teams like the 49ers, Cowboys, Eagles will have to fight them off in the coming years. Many teams are only a player or two away to make the next jump. To help stay at the top, the 49ers will need to continue to add difference makers on the DL, in the secondary, and OL. A first round pick potentially brings more value to this team than having a raw Trey Lance on the bench being a cheerleader. If he's not playing and learning from taking his lumps in this league, he is useless to this organization. Use Lance to add a piece that improves our areas of weakness.

Nonsense. He can do what Brock did and run the scout team and get reps in games that are decided. If a guy drafted last in the draft can get that good, there's no reason Trey can't improve his game in that way. We've got 11 picks in the draft and Trey isn't going to net anywhere near what we paid for him after being injured twice in two years and not being ready to start. He's the backup until he takes the starting job back, an injury occurs, or we trade him away, if we can find someone who likes him.

The bolded assumes that the two QB's have the same ability to play QB in the NFL. That's not looking like the case right now.
We have to go through Dak and Hurts. I believe Trey can be better than both guys given a chance to really play. Now if Purdy beats both these guys pretty soundly then I might be able to see why we should move Trey quickly but otherwise we keep both cheap franchise QBs and let the offseason determine who the starter is in 2023

If the project that was Hurts is winning in the NFL I have zero doubt Lance can develop with Shanahan. The only thing is we ain't just gonna give him the gig with Purdy playing like this
