If the project that was Hurts is winning in the NFL I have zero doubt Lance can develop with Shanahan. The only thing is we ain't just gonna give him the gig with Purdy playing like this

Or change the offense to look like Philly's? Gross. So ugly.

Are you kidding? I still remember the Roman offense and welcome anything that isn't that.

Good thing we have a front office that knows this. We keep both and we don't worry about a QB injury for two or three seasons while we focus our efforts elsewhere while continuing to develop both guys cheaply. We are talking about guys that are both 22 and 23 years old!

Seriously. Thank God the front office isn't stupid enough to trade Trey Lance. It's like people forget we are on our 3rd string QB this year due to injuries.

The "Trade Trey" group dont want him traded for any reason that would benefit the team. It's just personal problems they have with him.

Trey will ask for a trade himself when he realized he has no chance of being QB1 for years to come. He will want to be QB1 on another team rather than be 2nd or 3rd stringer to Purdy. You wait and see.

He may ask for a trade. Deebo asked for a trade. Gould asked for a trade. I still clown the idiots that wanted them traded, being such a knee jerk reaction that would have obviously resulted the team being worse off. Do you think this now because of the report about his insta tweet response to the Carthon hiring? Seems like before that you saw him as a bust based off of the 3 games he started. I grew up watching Joe own the league and during the Montana/Young debates I wanted Steve gone just because Joe was my dude. So I do understand it a bit, but Jimmy gone regardless. Additionally, since those years we haven't even sniffed a FQB. Couple that with the injuries we've suffered at the position the last few years, and that is why I want to keep both as long as we possibly can. I have no doubt that you have reasons as to why you want Trey off our team, I just don't see how they could be related to football, since nobody knows what Trey will be yet. Kyle has the best idea, and I'll honestly be cool with whatever decision he makes.

I started following NFL when Joe Nameth was playing. I have seen footballers come and go in various versions of football incl NFL, Rugby, Rugby League, Soccer etc.

When a key play has got it, it is obvious. Purdy has it. Lance does not. Lance only had one season in college and the lack of experience shows, He did alright in college because of his athleticism and size. Now he is in the big legal and his size matters little to his experience and football IQ, He was a bad pick and will be moving on sooner or later. His contract won't be renewed and he wont be getting another chance at starting on merit as Purdy is way above his ceiling.

Not yet.

Brock needs to keep playing like he has and beat Dallas and Philly. These two teams are a step up in competition - I want to see if he can keep this up as we have only a small sample size against bad and/or mediocre teams.

This is where it gets real. Beating Seattle was expected from any competent QB and Minnesota no different so it's almost good the Vikes lost so we can see Brock against two or three legit teams to truly assess him in terms of next year.

I've seen QBs tear up weak competition plenty of times in the league and not be able to do it vs elite teams. You all can crown him all you want but I want to see him beat Dallas and Philly first before any kind of coronation.

QB's don't go up against teams, they go up against defenses. Brock lit up two top 5 pass defenses this season. While Philly would be a great challenge to our passing game, they are very susceptible to the run. DAL D just isn't on that same level and neither is any defense left in the AFC.

it is almost a catch-22

If Trey is not upset about being benched....you almost DON'T want him.

You want a guy who is not happy sitting on the bench, if I was in the Front Office.... I would want to trade him even less if " he asked for a trade".

IMO this is the correct reading of the status quo.
There's little doubt that Purdy right now is the superior QB on the 49er's squad. A rare cerebral talent at the position. Superior processing. Great instincts. All the intangibles. But let's not get carried away; he has physical limitations. His size and arm strength. He has been fortunate on a couple of his more spectacular plays not to have been intercepted instead. A few that come to mind: The long ball to Jennings against Seattle, could have easily been picked. And the long ball to BA (forget the game) where he was wide open but had to turn around and wait for the long ball allowing the defensive backs to close up.
While the previous poster has criticized Lance for being injury prone, Purdy also had to play through an oblique injury he received in only his second game. Because of his physical stature, Brock cannot afford to take too many hits. The hit he took on the scramble and dropped pass to BA at the back end of the end zone, made one cringe. He's smart enough to avoid that kind of contact, but some hits are inevitable.
I agree that the comments re Lance being a "bust" are unrelated to football. He's shown glimpses of having all the essentials. However, if one's mind is already made up, no resorting to reason is going to matter.
KS has openly stated that he is envious of Buffalo having Josh Allen; he'd love to have someone with a similar skill set, which contributed to the team selecting Lance in the draft.
I do believe that Lance will stay. It would be ill-advised to jettison someone who they have invested so heavily in, without seeing what they have in him. I believe that they already feel that he can be a "franchise" QB. Their actions prove that.
I also understand the euphoria surrounding Purdy being the future at QB. He shows incredible savvy. And he deserves to be named starter (whatever that implies) also, provided he doesn't fall off a cliff in the interim.
Although I don't believe it'll be the case here, let us not forget the Kaepernick experience either. Everyone thought that he was all-world after his first start also.
Your conclusion says it all: It's Kyle's decision. He knows best.

He's not going to be QB1 with anyone. Watch him play. Maybe he can be a backup fullback.

Your conclusion says it all: It's Kyle's decision. He knows best.

His size and strength have not been much of an issue so far. If a defense can force him to stay in the pocket, it could be a problem. The question is, can they contain him? He has a natural instinct to feel and evade pressure. He can buy time and make guys miss. He may not have the strongest arm but is strong enough and is pretty damn accurate. He can throw off many different platforms as well. With his eliteness upstairs, his accuracy overall and his elusiveness is a deadly combination. I feel confident going into this game as I will going into the next 2 games.

Brock has a 3.0% TWP rate. That is ranked 19th lowest out of 41 qualifying QB's. You are right, he sometimes pushes the limits of his abilities. But that is something that I love about him. Could it potentially cost us a possession per game? Absolutely, but bad plays have shown not to phase him.

As far as his spectacular plays. How about that 3rd down and 9 pass to Jennings against WAS where Purdy read the defense perfectly and hit him with anticipation? Defense had no chance. That was against a top 5 pass defense. How about that 3rd down pass to Kittle against MIA when he had a free rusher hitting him as he threw the ball? Read the blitz well, didn't panic and instinctually knew to throw it into the vacancy. How about that pass to CMC on the go route against TB? Where he again stood tall and delivered a perfectly placed ball right on the outside shoulder in the front corner of the endzone. He has made a number of tight window throws that I could go on about but I am sure you get my point.

I agree with you to do extent the teams have not been tier 1 teams but he is a rookie and this is the NFL there are no easy games and he has performed well, if he beats Dallas and loses to the eagles he has had a impressive run, not saying he is going to make the pro bowl or even be a good quarterback down the road, but it has been a impressive run for a young quarter I like watching him play.
