At what salary would you be OK keeping Jimmy for 2022?

I mean, mods usually lock or consolidate other threads when this happens. August can't come soon enough when all this garbage isn't cluttering NT anymore.
Keeping him is a mistake if we want Lance to be the guy
1 can.....the dude comes free

I suspect he's not even going to be healthy enough to play by the opener even if we wanted him back. We're probably going to end up paying him at least whatever amount is guaranteed if he's still injured when we release him.

If they're forced to pay him, they're not releasing him what sense does that make.

If they release him before the season and he's still injured then they only owe him around $7 million and not his full salary.
$0. He won't be with the 9ers going forward.

Actually it's $8.9M with his prorated bonus. That $7M will become a credit for 2023 if/when he signs with another team (depending on how much he signs for). Once he's cleared (then cut) that $7M is no longer guaranteed and they can have that cash for 2022.

Salary is only half of the issue. If we keep Jimmy as a back up, how will it affect the locker room?

As long as Trey plays well, it'll be alright, IMO.

No, dude's gotta go. The moment Lance tosses a INT or making a rookie mistake you're gonna have teammates and fans questioning not playing Jimmy.

Lance should be allowed to make those young mistakes without having that s**t breathing down his back...most cases that hurts a young QB not help them.

Jimmy needs to go play football somewhere else...as soon as SF moved up for a QB, he was playing on borrowed time to begin with.

I don't think the team has to worry about that, teammates won't crush a new guy making mistakes if they don't become habitual, and fans are gonna complain anyway. If Trey got hurt, I'd rather see Jimmy in there than Sudfeld. I just don't think Jimmy will take a pay cut. But if Jed don't mind paying him, I don't mind him being here. Would probably help Trey to have a successful veteran in the qb room honestly. I don't think Trey is the kind of guy to have a fragile ego.

That is why they hired Brian Griese.
