I'm arguing with the posters that want him gone because of the pressure on Trey.

Jimmy gone because of cap issues? Absolutely. Jimmy gone because hes taking snaps away from Lance and hurting his development? Not really if Shanahan doesn't give any first team reps to Jimmy. that would be stupid. Jimmy gone because it would hurt treys feelings? No no no. This is the NFL.

I want this to be Trey's team, much like this was Jimmy's team last yr. That means 1st string reps go to Trey. The team knows who's the starter and will be the starter going forward. No locker room nonsense or people trying to push for Jimmy every moment Lance makes a young QB mistake. I want him to have the team built around him and support him, not have the "option" to go in another direction just because.

No one is talking about hurting Lance's feelings...no one. It's the dynamics of the situation as a whole from the players to the fans. It's a dumb scenario IMO and there's no reason to make it that way.

If Jimmy was never the starting QB of the 49ers with 4 years of history, I'd love to have him be the backup. But that's not the case, there is history. For all we know there are players that prefer Jimmy over Lance, and having that cloud hang over the lockerroom will be drama if/when Lance struggles.

Agree.
0; he needed to be gone months ago.

I disagree that this was Jimmy's team last year. Let's be honest there wasn't a play that occurred where fans werent calling for him to be replaced by trey.

As I've said before, if Jimmy is still on this team come training camp, either Kyle is playing with fire in terms of treys development, just to increase compensation for Jimmy, or the reports about them being underwhelmed woth trey are true. There is no reason for Jimmy to be on this team come training camp.

Yes having Jimmy as a legit backup that doesn't cost $27M with no history of being the starter here, that would be ideal....but like you said that's not the case. He's got to go and that's just not for the team but also for Jimmy.

If you paid attention to everything Lynch/Kyle and the players said...it was most certainly Jimmy's team from day 1 last yr. Kyle said he was the starter and there was no QB competition. They didn't ask him to take a pay cut. He got 99% of the 1st string reps. It was Jimmy's team for good or bad. Their development of Trey was at a snails pace because they knew Jimmy was the starter. Whatever with the fans, they're gonna complain over everything anyway.

No if jimmy is here in TC, it's because they couldn't trade him and are still trying to do just that. It could be because he isn't cleared yet either.

IF they were underwhelmed with Lance then they would have NEVER tried to move Jimmy in the first place. They haven't even had practices yet to say they're "underwhelmed" with him. It was a BS report and the guy reporting it is known for that (no one in here even knows who he is until earlier this month) NY fans had to listen to his nonsense years ago. The fact that some have taken it as fact is dumb as s**t.

But, he's not - he either needs to accept a pay cut or be released.

Agree!

we seriously don't know this for sure.
There are 5 stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance.

This thread is clearly the bargaining stage.

I assume that the Jimmy fans will get to the depression stage during OTAs and hopefully reach acceptance when he's finally off the team by training camp.

There's a reason walsh and belichek stuck with Montana and Brady, and it wasn't to keep from getting theor feelings hurt. They played and won. Trey just needs to do the same. Winners win, no matter what. Look at russel wilson. Seahwaks gave Flynn a big contract. Rookie Wilson came in and took his job. Lance just needs to do his thing and not worry about who's behind him.

You're talking about the 2 greatest QBs to ever play. It's hardly the same situation as Jimmy and Trey. Jimmy isn't even close to being a HOF QB and Trey is basically a rookie. They've seen enough of Jimmy to know that he isn't the future so they need to let Trey go out there without the added pressure of maybe being benched if he has a bad game.

Walsh benched Montana a few times but he knew that Young was an exceptional talent that had a different skill set. He also knew Joe well enough to know that he would respond with a good game and not sulk.

Brady was never in danger of being benched because they never really had a good replacement for him. I doubt Brady really worried about Jimmy.

So let me understand. You keep jimmy until he's cleared, then see if there are takers. If there are no takers, you still hold on to him to keep trying to move him until the very last day when his contract becomes fully guaranteed. Then you dump him? All this during a very important develepmental training camp for trey, when you specifically stated you want no distractions for trey, and to add to that they must keep up with the optics that Jimmy is in competition with trey in an effort drive up the asking price? This plan doesn't seem well thought out.

My thinking is if Jimmy G is still on the roster by the first game what does that say about Lance?

More like, what does it say about Sudfeld and Purdy

We already know how bad those two are though.

Unlikely he'll be gone unless we find a trade partner.

And some are still at the denial stage.

Sorry, that was a gimme.😝
