a total unknown that the niner spinsters are trying to jam down our throats
i think you like stuff jammed down your whatevers..as much as you post this reference

nice snark as usual but cc said nothing wrong... you have to blind or a total homer to not see this full court press from the team.. and from the guys who do editorials on this web site.. breathlessly hyping this guy.. hope they are right and unlike some on this board.. i will come on and say i was wrong about him..... if i am right about him and he turns out to be over rated and not very good... i will take no pleasure in it

He is not an unknown to Trey which is key. He was Trey's center for basically all of last season.

did he actually play in games that matter. i hope he is what some of you hope he is.. but to me.. the team knew about mack and should have been pro active.. get a good guy on day one of free agency or at least draft a nice guy early instead of going for a running back . concerned about this big piece on the line especially with a qb who is supposed to be our future

I do. I was a big advocate for him making the 53. He didn't but was able to be brought back after clearing waivers so it worked out.

I don't know what his talent level is. Is he another Ben Garland or Daniel Brunskill playing C or is he a 36 year old Alex Mack? Or better?

Does he tap out early on talent, slowly gets worse and exposed more over time or a talent that continues to get better and better?

I like Brendel too. Specially his durability.
"It doesn't really matter who's in there," Mora said. "Jake is in command. It all starts at the center. That's the guy who makes the calls. That's the guy who points out things, adjusts protections. Get guys on the right page. When we do go to silent count, he's the guy who calls the cadence.
"To have a guy who's started 50 games at UCLA — broke an all-time school record — as that guy, as that center, as that voice, as that decision-maker, I think it's pretty comforting for us as coaches."

Aa we know, availability is everything for this team.

I wonder how he'll handle all the new inside stuff: power, gap, 1on1, pulls, IZ, etc.

Running inside to the left should be no problem because Trent and Banks are big strong guys and Brendel will just clean up after and maybe pull, trap or seal to that left side. Running outside to the left again should not be a problem either because of Brendel's athleticism. There may be some issue to the right - depending on who and where the 49ers RG and RT are and their physical athleticism and strength. I think Brendel shares a lot of the kind of athleticism intelligence and durability that a guy named Mike Webster had at the beginning of his career. Not saying he'll have the same career as that guy, but Brendel got a slow start the same as Mike.

49AllTheTime I suggest not wasting time answering to those clueless people. The best you can do is to either laugh at their ignorance or simply ignore them, which I do. It's like reading Grant Cohn but on the forum. Nothing but trolls.

Exactly. The team did know about Mack's intentions and still made no major moves to replace him, so that should tell you how they feel about Brendel. Think I'll trust their evaluations of him over cc's.
The fact Shanalynch hasn't signed anyone else, they must be pretty confident Brendel can handle things. He'll have to earn the job...he has competition in West, Poe & maybe Zakelj. Jake's 29, so has been around long enough to know how to handle the pressure, which could be a reason Coach is happy with him, at least for this season. I see West becoming an OL fixture in the not too distant future, though.

who's hyping him? People are talking about him because he might end up as the starter....people want to know more about him, why's that a bad thing?

I would have loved them to bring in a "big name" at center...most fans love that s**t. Go look at some of the quality starting centers in the NFL and where they were drafted. They s**t as s**t aren't all 1st rd picks.

As far as you saying your right lol...dude you don't even know who he is or have watched anything on him. How the hell can you come to a conclusion about a player with what you actually know? How about we wait until at least training camp to delegate someone as a s**tty player or not
Oh look its the usual complainers.

I'd like to see them give someone like West a legit opportunity to be the starting centre come week 1. I doubt It happens though since Kyle typically prefers experience over youth. My preferred starting 5 would be something like this.

Williams Banks West Moore Brunskill

We'll see how it goes through training camp and pre-season though.
