I hate Kyle's obsession with mediocre centers so much.

Every coach wants a strong run game, also a strong pass and ST game

its not the GM, the GM is the one who added key pieces like OL. Harbaugh screwed it up because he's not a coach.

He has HDS

I forgot about Feliciano. He is definitely better than Brendal. That could be a huge boost.

AGree 💯%❗

Having a powerful center augments the power blocking aspect of Kyle's scheme. That actually makes Mason more of a fit than a speed back like a Brieda for his run game.

The Niners like athletic centers who can move. This scheme is zone runs not power runs.
I would think with Banks and Puni protecting him he would be ok. But I don't think he's great. He even gets some praise. But I think that's more because of our overall team being really good.

Kyle does both.

Agree 💯%❗,and I think Brendel is there because he's had so much Center experience (both in college and pros). You can't have an inexperienced but physically talented center playing there, you can get your QB killed if he misses a blitz protection call.

Yeah that's true.

Yeah that's true.

That's what happened to Drew Brees when the Charger line let John Lynch through on a blitz for a sack on Drew and he fumbled and in the subsequent scrum, his throwing arm got torn off.
Dude has no business being a starting center in the NFL let alone on a team trying to win a SB. He was awful on Sunday.

Bummer to see Beebe doing so well

After the bye is my understanding.
I miss Alex Mack.
Brendel is doing quite well in run blocking. His PFF rating of 67.7 is better than just "acceptable."

It is in pass blocking that he STRUGGLES. His 29.5 is the lowest in the league by 11 points. It is also the lowest two-game rating I can recall in his career (I watch this stuff). Overall, he ranks #25 in the league. In the past, he has been around 18. Let's hope he gets back to at least that level.

Kyle mentioned they missed potential large gains on four pass plays due to a breakdown in protection. KS wasn't specific but it is likely Brendel was the primary culprit in most of them.
