Brendel scored 9.94 (tied with Rob Hunt)

Of course playing center is more mental than physical but I guess Brendel has been snapping to Trey Lance for a while now and had been in our system for a few years so he might not be that much of a drop off maybe even an upgrade athletically. I'm just keeping my hopes up and I think you all should too.

Yeah those athletic numbers are pretty tight...issue is he was like 285lbs when he did all those drills. I saw he's right around 300lbs right now, which is still a little light in the pants but is right around the same size as Richburg. Sounds like he's still got those movement skills though.

It's funny you tossed out Chris Chester's name...he played for the shanahan's in DC and for Kyle in ATL. I think he ended up being their starting RG for them and started in 100 games for them.

One thing you need when the center is a little smaller is bigger guards IMO. Banks fits the bill there, not sure about Brunskill

For sure good points. Hopefully the continuity with Lance will make up for Brendel lacking in other areas. I'm sure a lot of us remember in the preseason game last year he got to the second level so damn quick to block down on another defender. That "quick twitch" that Trent Williams was talking about was on display. Let's hope he improves and is a top 10-15 Center.

Pretty much...one guy that comes to mind is Ryan Jensen, he was a late 6th rd pick in 2013 and got cut on the PS for the Ravens. He wasn't a full-time starter until 2017. David Andrews was a UDFA, Chase Roullier was a late 6th rd pick. Bradley Bozeman late 6th rd pick. Jason Kelce 6th rd pick.

fingers crossed...I would have liked them to draft someone, thought there was some solid prospects but we're not around these guys like our coaches are.

Isn't Brendel here basically cus Forester has really liked him and fought to get him on the team? Last similar situation like this was with our then DB coach Jeff Hafley who fought to get a relatively unknown undrafted guy who got cut named K'waun Williams on our team cus he thought he could be a really good player. That worked out pretty well I would say. Let's give our coaches the benefit of the doubt. Couple that with his elite RAS scores and what was some solid film in the preseason. I'm personally optimistic he will work out. Let's see

I agree with you on Brendel.

I belive Tom Compton doubled his guaranteed money this year from his previous contract. He wasn't highly regarded prior to comming to the 49ers but Benton liked him and Tom did surprisingly decent last year, such that his new team paid him around double his previous salary. So I'm confident Benton can do better with higher quality materials (Banks, Moore, Beauford, Zackelj and Brendel) vs a Tom Compton level athlete.

I think, personnally, most (if not all) of the OLinemen we have on the team may have more athleticism, strength and explosiveness than Compton.

He's 29 and only signed for this year so ATM, he's probably not seen as a long term solution. But he certainly has the path to putting himself into that conversation for a 2-3 year deal.

Fair point, he may just be a placeholder for the time being depending on his play. I honestly have high hopes for Poe at center, although I'm not entirely sure how Shanny views him as of now. Center, guard and OW 2.0 are all potential options for him.

Yeah, him and Dohnovan West too.

West seems like a solid UDFA pickup but I think I like the athletic upside of the other two, whoever gets the job done is fine with me though.

Good call. Foerester, cocaine usage aside, is a pretty well respected O-line coach and the fact that he pounded the table for the guy definitely carries some weight.

I'm on this page as well. I'm also on record saying I thought Mack was coming back, so take that with a grain of salt. But the team has to know that putting Lance in a precarious position could not only be an issue for this season, but could have long term effects. I really don't think they want to do that. I think they really do believe in Brendel. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt. For the moment.
