I'm their primes, who was the better pass rusher out of these two

Great points. My hope is that the continued development of Kinlaw will help Bosa and turn them into a terrifying pass rush duo like the Hart/Hardman Kleco/Gastineau legendary pairs of old.

I add Dean/Johnson pair because that whole defense was terrifying if you add Michael Carter and Dwain Board on the opposit side. It's my hope that this years DLine has that potential kind of talent.

It would have been nice to see those 4 play together longer. but Dean and Johnson were near the end of their careers and only had 2 decent seasons together in SF. Pee Wee was actually the most effective pass rusher during that time. Sadly, Dean died at 68 and Johnson at 57.

I walked into a store in California a few years ago and Cedrick Hardman was sitting near the entrance handing out signed photos of himself. There wasn't anyone else around so I got to talk to him briefly. It seemed so odd to see one of the greatest pass rushers in NFL history sitting there signing photos. He addressed it to me and wrote. "Truth is the quiet acceptance of what is." Cedrick Hardman #86. In the photo he's obliterating some guy on the Chargers.

Aldon Smith. No doubt
Aldon Smith had 33 sacks in 2 years. Bosa would have to have 17.5 sacks this season to match that stretch.

Yeah, sad that they all have to go, and so early too. But, when your purpose in life is over, then it's over.

Aldon the better pass rusher but Bosa the better player.

Id say this as well, emphasizing that Bosa is the better overall player. Bosa playing the run and setting the edge and his motor, he is a true three-down player.

Aldon was an incredible pass rusher and I'll trust Trent Williams assessment of his pass rushing skills.
Aldon Smith should have been the face of the Niners but his mental was his demise. He was my favorite player by far two years in and then the bottom fell out year four

In some ways he was the face of the franchise. A franchise that struggled and was disfunctional for most of his time there. Bad draft picks. Bad coaches.
Did Aldon make it to his prime? And I don't think Bosa has even hit his prime yet.

I think it's Bosa. He does what he does without the benefit of Justin Smith tying up the entire interior of the offensive line for him.

I agree. Once they started calling holds on defensive lineman, Justin Smith stopped grabbing tackles on the stunts and Aldon's numbers dropped.

Y'all are forgetting Aldon eventually was no slouch in the run game and was about as good in pass coverage as Bosa. Bosa came in ready from day 1 I'll give him that.

All those plays where we're impressed with Bosas motor because he chases down a QB or RB from the opposite side but just barely missed…Aldon finished those. Dude was one of the few who could chase down prime Russel Wilson.

Bosa is great, and barring injury, will most likely have a HOF career but Aldon was on track to break ridiculous records.

yes, but Alson hid behind Cowboy a lot.

I can't even remember if aldon ever lined up on the left side
Aldon was the more physically gifted pass rusher of his time. The length, strength, and bend he had was amazing. Too bad that million dollar body can with a five cent head. He could have been a hall of famer.
