Just given how rules have changed, we won't see a defense like that 2011 one again.

Whitner literally concussed Pierre Thomas into a fumble in that epic Saints playoff game.

Those kinda hits were routine for SF back then and they'd be flagged up and down the field now.

I kinda look at those seasons (2011-2013) as the last frontier for a truly violent defense.

True, don't know if there will ever be another Willis laying the lumber like that again in today's age or if LB's will even be allowed to make those same hits ever again.

Or that Dashon Goldson hit against Arizona. That defense was absolutely ferocious.

do you really think the whittner hit would be flagged today? i have to relook. but i am not sure maybe crazy dmax who has found out how to post video can post that clip and we can see

Definition of helmet to helmet contact lol. Thomas looked like a UFC fighter getting knocked the f out how he went limp there after contact

Was by far one of the coldest moments I've ever see . Cold as in bad ass like walking away from an explosion and not looking back

We didn't need a bounty. Our guys just loved laying the wood on MFers.

I still remember the hit by Willis on the Jets player. He almost took that dude's head off his shoulders.

I legit thought Pat killed him

My favorite hit was from Ahmad Brooks who turned Drew Brees neck into stretch armstrong.

Still can't believe he got penalised for that one.

We got some good ones today. On a play for play basis... Willis is as good as any Niner I've seen. He brought it every play.

It looked much worse seeing It live. A viscous hit, but completely textbook and legal. I miss Pat.

Todays snowflake game would be first down on the 1 yard line. Saints punch it in for 7

i really do not think aside from goldsen.. our hits were bounty like and dirty.. never saw a team tackle so perfect than that one... i got so used to good tackling... when jh left and we got what we got.. i was just stunned.. to this day.. i get crazy over poor tackling.. cuz of that 2011 team.
2019 was a close run to 2011.. but yeah 2011 was incredible.. we should have been blowing out teams if we had an offense

i know at the end cowboy.. aldon smith and. brooks were getting hurt.. but most of 2012 when we went to the super bowl, that defense was pretty good. i know people blame kyle for the loss to the giants and i get it.. i do to.. but was our third down conversion rate that day the worst in the history of the nfl.. 1 for 16 or something like that

They were, but there's more of an emphasis on it today. Also wouldn't have been reviewed then. It's the slo mo version that shows how bad it really was.

I was at that game and had season tickets to candlestick for about 10 years.

That hit by Willis was the loudest hit I've ever heard in any football game. Period.
