Whoa, Colton replaces Trent? Hope Colton had developed over the off-season!
McKivitz started week 18 last year in a must-win
I'm betting Trent's mention of being one-legged in the NFCCG is helping Shanahan start McKivitz as Trent has his veteran's day offs.
Last year - Trent was injured towards the last few games, expecting same or worse this year due to his age.
P.S. if 49ers win the 🏆 I'm betting Trent's retiring a la Alex Mack.
Maybe, but like Brady, it's hard to retire when you're the best at your position.
Good point, just checked his guaranteed salary. His voidable years start in 2024. So ShanaLynch (I think) has Trent for this year and next year, but the year after that...
They need another #1 pick for that LT position. I'm betting they do that in the draft next year. i.e. using either a Round 2 pick (no round 1 picks next year) or a round 3 pick (I think they have three of them next year).
Idk about a 2nd round pick protecting the blindside on a long term basis let alone a 3rd or higher. I hope they have a gameplan.
Agree, short term they have Trent. Long term, I like NC's draft and develop program he's proposed for the OLine, which is just like ShanaLynch's DLine development program but instead of round 1 picks -- maybe round 2 level picks. But from here on in, considering Trey and his possibility of being a guy that can be as accurate as Brees and a runner like Lamar, I'd definitely be beefing up that OLine to protect him for the rest of his career.
The team is pretty solid all around and could splurge on high OL picks next year. We will also have Jimmy's cap space to roll over next year
Great points, I keep forgetting Jimmy is still on the team.
I definitely agree with you that considering Trent's age, I'm all for another OLine draft like this year's 2022 draft. Two OLinemen were taken (Burford,Zakelj). I'm ok with either a 2nd rounder for the OLine (in next years draft) or possibly two 3rd round picks going to the OLine. I think the 49ers have three third rounders next year.
I'm sure Russell Wilson is a nice guy and a cool person to hang with, but I wish he would just embrace who he is and stop trying so hard to be "hip, street, hood," whatever adjective you want to use to describe the modern athlete. I'm pretty sure it's Ciara that's encouraging him, but if I hear one more "Let's Ryde, dogg!" Or "Fa sho, playa!" I'm gonna have to turn off NFL programming. So cringe, yeesh.

Trey is not anywhere near the running threat that Jackson is. Trey runs in the 4.5s and is nowhere near as shifty.

Trey has the same speed that Colin had, and Colin has the playoff rushing record. I don't think Colin or Trey are that particularly shifty either.

That Packers defense was quite terrible though, lol.

Quick 49ers thoughts on Day 1 of practice: -They weren't getting too fancy with anything, but I thought Lance looked very solid. Maybe his throwing motion is a bit tightened up? Definitely in charge. -The secondary is clearly MUCH MUCH better than last year at this time...

I brought up the question of does Trey's throwing motion look more compact and got dogged for it in the Trey Lance thread. I guess I am not the only one who thinks so.

You didn't get dogged for it, lol. Two people disagreed that it did. Sheesh.
