I hope this guy gets better at running routes, catching passes, picking up blitzes and pass pro. Otherwise, DC's will know its a run play whenever he steps onto the field.

Are 6th round punters and kickers "technically" 1st round picks too then?

He didn't clear waivers in order to make the PS. He was claimed by the Jags. He's on their 53.

Usually rookies improve once they gain some experience in the league.

Yeah NC, I don't think the word "technically" fits there.

Maybe "essentially"

Its hard enough for rookies to make it in this league let alone UDFA rookies. The coaching staff obviously likes him. He is a very good ball carrier. He is decisive and hits the hole like he means it. I am just questioning his ability in other areas. Perhaps he has looked better in those other areas during the practices and it just didn't show up in the games. I can only go by what I have seen personally though.

Boy I just looked at his college numbers - he hardly played and is raw as heck from a passing standpoint. 26 passes caught in four years!

How the heck did they find this guy? When an UDFA makes the 53, that's a home run - this is more like a Grand Slam. This guy is a talented runner, and has potential as a pass catcher, at least I think so. Kyle's running backs all can catch the football, otherwise they don't stand a chance at making his ballclub.

So he averaged 6.5 catches per season in college, what world beater. How many targets did he have? How many passes did he drop?

If he is a grand slam at being a superstar RB, why did he go undrafted?

Like I said, the coaches must have seen something else out of him that wasn't put on tape during the pre season games. That is quite obvious since he did make the 53 but can you tell me what it was?

Maybe you should watch the pre season again. He was outgaining Sermon as an UDFA. He has that ability to run in Kyle's system the way Hasty did, and if he's more durable than Hasty, that's a net positive. The only question I have is his hands. But I had questions about Kittle's hands too when he got here - next thing you know, Kittle is breaking pass catching records. We shall see about his hands, but from the preseason games - to me - that's still a question mark.

I think he was the best downhill runner in pre season for us. I have stated as much. I am saying the he is going to have to really improve or atleast show ability in other areas before he sees much playing time this year. If Mitchell and Wilson jr. stay healthy, he may not see the field at all this season. He obviously showed more than Sermon or else they would have let him go instead. He must of proved to have more long term potential than Hasty because Hasty played just as well in the pre season. I am okay with keeping him since we have 3 other RB's in front of him anyway.

Injuries have a way of cropping up on 49er teams. Kyle has a way of using those injuries to uncover talent. At least that's how I think Mason will showcase his talents. It's a long season, and most likely he'll be having substantial playing time by game 17. At some point Mason has to run or catch the rock and it's in those instances where we'll find out what he's made of. In the meantime, he's made the 53. Now he has to learn to protect the QB on a blitz, run the correct rout, and know the blocking assignment if he's asked to block for Deebo on a bubble screen.

This was my original point.

There's a reason for that. The Georgia Tech QB's.

I don't think we should ever draft a RB again.

Just looking at our track record for acquiring talent:

Running Backs = UDFA
O-Linemen = Free Agency
DB's = Free Agency
QB = ?

We should only draft; WR/DL/LB/TE

Simple strategy LOL
