I hope these kids get better at pass pro and running routes quickly or we may be in trouble.

I understand the philosophy. At the same time young players, rookies in particular, are always learning. He's trusting one of the rawest players on the roster at the most important position on the field game in and game out. In a game in which nothing much is happening offensively, maybe a Mason gets the ball a time or two and gives a real spark. Maybe he doesn't. Obviously if you don't give him the chance you're never going to know.

Its possible but Shanahan is also likely to keep Wilson in there inspite of a lack of production or continue to increase Deebo's carries. I hope I am wrong because we really do need another RB to come in and be productive. We also don't want to show our hand when bringing in one of the rook's because the defense knows they aren't going to get any pass snaps due to lack of skill in pass pro and route running.

That too is fair enough. But Sunday for instant wasn't exactly a passing day to start with.

Agreed. Yet Shanny gave neither of them any carries.

Its very Vic Fangio like. Vic had his system and ran our starters into the ground, not letting younger players play.

Exactly. I would have had all tight ends active and all running backs active. Pound the ball and play smart, ball control ball, field position. The Bears could do nothing when we played sound and disciplined.
im hoping we get a get a look at him this Sunday

What Kyle Shanahan says and what he does appear to be two different things entirely.

Case in point? The 2021 season. The season-opening win over Detroit cost the 49ers the services of Raheem "The Dream" Mostert. It took a game or two for Elijah to become the number one back, but Elijah did take over that role. He did it as a rookie. He did it because he was needed. He did it because he proved he could get the job done.

The one thing Kyle did not have in 2021 was Jeff Wilson. Not yet. He was still rehabbing a knee. Although Wilson becomes the primary back in the lineup, that may not last. If he isn't effective as a runner, look for Jordan Mason to get a shot.

If we lose both Wilson and Mason to injury, the 49ers are screwed.

He did it because Wilson was also hurt. He did it because Sermon wasn't worth a damn. He did it because he had no one else. I am glad it worked out though. But still, them signing Marlon Mack is a good sign that the rookies just aren't ready yet.

Well we'll see when/if Mack is actually promoted to the active roster too though.

I can't imagine they'll leave a former 1,000 yard rusher on the practice squad for any longer than they have to but who knows. Obviously he'll need to get up to speed with the scheme.

Yes. If Jeff comes out and gives us a solid performance against the seahawks than we may just keep him on the ps for now. If he doesn't perform well than we may see one of the rookies by halftime. If the rookie fails to exectute plays when he doesn't have the ball in his hands that very well may be the determining factor on moving Mack onto the 53.

I think that's the thing, he needs to learn the scheme, then they may very well sign him to the 53-man roster, not sure who gets cut though, guess injuries will happen by then, IR someone, sign Mack, like Gipson was signed.
Mason will lead the team in rushing this year. You heard it here 1st.

Can he pick up the blitz? If not, we have a young IOL that is weak, a RB that can't pass block, to go along with an inexperienced QB -- recipe for disaster.

Wilson can't be the only back to get carries on Sunday to help Trey and the team and if Wilson gets injured someone else needs to go in at RB, it's going to have to be Mason or TDP or Both, let's see exactly what these 2 rooks got.
