I love how Mason runs!

Me 2, he needs more playing time, if he can develop into a pass catcher as good as a runner he is, then we have a nice 1-2 combo once Mitchell departs or is traded, doubt they keep Mitchell past 2024.

I think you just let Mitchell play out his deal. But they definitely should be looking for the next one in terms of talent.

I wonder if McDaniel and his track team of 6 fastest WR's and RB's in Miami will have an influence on Kyle going forward. Our personnel is more short-area, quick and tough YAC players (and they all take a physical toll).

That style has yet to go thr distance or even run a single leg of the race. With that said, Kyle likes speed guys (Mostert was here first, he had Breida, Goodwin, and drafted Gray), so its a nice change up and I'd like to see it but I prefer our style.

I'm hoping Gray is ready to contribute this year.

It's my observation that Shanahan need a bit of a speed threat at the RB position in the outside zone. Because our pass game relies on a successful run game to draw linebackers closer to the LOS, it opens up receiving routes behind them. The more fear we can threaten them with a big run, the more LB's have to cheat up. In addition to all the things that CMC does in the passing game, he's one of the most dangerous outside zone runners in the NFL. Last year, even though Jeff Wilson Jr was averaging around 5 ypc, our offense seemed to be struggling a little bit. Sure, we ran the ball well, but I don't think the play action was as strong at it should've been.

I also agree that we need to limit CMC's usage to keep him fresh/healthy, but our offense becomes a lot less dangerous when he steps off of it. CMC has so much versatility, and ability in the outside zone plays. When Jordan Mason comes in, as a viewer, I'm expecting mostly inside run plays and the occasional outside run play.

I think it's just a matter of time though. He's extremely effective in the fourth quarter four-minute offense, but hopefully (1) we either blow teams out so early in the game that we can run with Mason more, and/or (2) Mason continues to improve his overall game so that he can spell CMC more.

I agree and think Mitchell somewhat brings that. Its been so long people have forgotten. But I'd be open to the next Mostert, with better health, to get a few carries a game.
One of my favourite players, as much as I love watching CMC leave them clutching at thin air it's also sexy to see a Dude trucking people head on.

Could be a big opportunity for him next Monday. He's definitely running harder than Mitchell.

You don't necessarily need home run speed to be successful in the outside zone schedule. One of the best backs kyle has worked with was Alfred Morris, who was not exactly a fleet-footed back. But Morris was a decisive one cut runner who would find the cutback lane and hit it hard.

I think mason can do the same (assuming he has the vision and decisiveness)

Also, we don't run nearly as much outside zone as previous years (even with CMC)
Zero carries last night... this is Kyle's biggest coaching mistake so far IMO

Mason has shown he can get tough yards and make something out of nothing.

We're going to run CMC into the ground if we haven't already.

Especially on the heals of the oblique injury,

It makes me wonder if he is struggling in other areas. Maybe the missed pass blocking pick up last week is more the normal.

I don't buy it since our backup TE keeps whiffing on blocks, and he even lined up in the backfield and missed a block, yet he's still given opportunities.

Is there a TE on the roster who can perfectly play in his place in 2 TE sets? Or are they stuck with TE2 because TE3 is not better? They are not removing Kittle for TE2.

It may be the scheme is too difficult, and only really gifted smart players can master it. I mean asking a RB to move across the QB to pick up a free rusher is a lot to ask.

NONSENSE... Kyle just can't coach... he saw our D struggling last night and he continue to try and compete w/their offense.. it's almost like he was trying to OUT SHINE the Vikings' coach play calling vs. play calling..

Instead of slowing the game down by using our RBs that includes Mason, he continued to show case his PLAY CALLING...

How many TFL and stuffs did the vikings get on run plays? I saw quite a few. So now it is 2nd and 11, do they run it again?
3ypc with a long of 9yds.

And what does showcasing play calling mean? Is he supposed to tell Purdy pick a play? He IS the playcaller, unless you insist on him giving that up, he can only "showcase" his play calling.

Only replacement RB was Mitchell even though Mason has 2 TDs recently, way to kill his momentum. Just the threat of CMC was enough, throw a different look out there for phucks sake. Continuing to do the same thing over and over expecting a different result, insanity.

EXACTLY what Shanny did w/Mostert after a record rushing performance in that NFCCG vs the Packers.. he was NOT used in the Super Bowl until the 2nd QTR..

GO watch the game again... you may notice enough that he was trying to OUT PLAY CALLING the other HC... . instead of calling a BALL CONTROL offense to keep the ball away from the Vikings' HOT offense, he continued to just all non sense plays after non sense plays..
