We also don't get to see what the coaches see in practice. I am willing to bet they have tried some combinations. Determined that Ward in the slot puts our best 11 on the field and wouldn't be better with any of the other 3 guys mentioned above. I could be wrong but if Lenoir or Womack proved to be better options, they would be out there on game day.

He's always been a great player, but in this D with Ward moving to the slot and him and huf at S I love, great signing

Why was this guy a street FA all offseason? What a late pickup, kinda a blessing in disguise Jimmy Ward got hurt late in the offseason forcing us to pick up Gipson.

Sometimes players just fit in well to a particular scheme

My opinion on this is. If we put Ward at safety, who do we put in the slot and does it make our defense better?
I really liked Womack but I think they prefer Lenoir's physicality. Maybe they think Ward is both. I know he's not a fan of that position; which kind of sucks.
I think, Womack is pretty good at corner back talent but he is good rookie! Womack should play instead Lenoir. Be honest is my answer..

Womack is a pretty good rookie talent! He should be playing over Lenoir. Just being honest.

I don't know. I think Lenoir is getting exposed because of his assignments. Put him in a limited role and I think he'd look great. He's just not a number 2 corner yet and I don't see it from Womack yet either. Hopefully the two make some strides next year. They both have gained a lot of valuable experience- particularly Lenoir. This next offseason is probably going to determine if he can step into that number 2 role or will he just be a good roleplayer/backup.

What a find Gipson has been. He's older (along with Ward), but I hope they can somehow bring both of them back as well as drafting a FS of the future. I know I'm asking for too much, but there is a security that Jimmie provided at FS. Let these two go at it in camp (along with the rookie) and may the best man win.

I have what may be an unpopular take. While Gipson has been solid and outperformed his expectations, I think his spot can be upgraded from an athleticism standpoint. It's not all about being athletic, otherwise TMoore would be starting, but I do think having two slow safeties in this coverage scheme can be exploited, and I'm not using this LVR game as evidence. This scheme requires safeties to cover WRs at times and Gipson is no longer a young guy. Bring him back as plan B, that's a sound plan. But if the team wants to continue this scheme, I think the they should make upgrading Gipson's spot a priority.

There have been some years where Jimmy Ward started as an outside cornerback. I forget, how did he fare there?
I wonder if it makes sense to put him at outside cornerback and then put Lenoir or Womack at the slot.

No doubt we should be looking for exactly that next year.
