One of the toughest and more frustrating losses I have ever witnessed the 49ers endure. Losing the Super Bowl, twice, the way that we did was tough. Watching Joe get knocked out and Craig fumble in our quest for the three peat was tough. To watch Steve flounder about in the playoffs until he finally won in '94 was tough. To watch Hearst go down in the playoffs was tough. But to watch Purdy get injured and then later be forced to essentially serve as a hand off machine once Johnson was knocked out, while still trying to lead the team on was a uniquely disheartening thing to witness. And the reason was that he had to continue to go out there when he could not throw. If Purdy does not come back stronger and better from this then I misread his character and toughness. I just hope that his elbow and arm are okay. Because, he should be the starter going into camp.
In the end, I am, as always, proud of this team. We endured many losses at the QB position as well as elsewhere and kept going. There was a lot of fight in this team. I will always remember that. I just hate that it ended in this extraordinary and difficult way.
And for those once again calling for Greenlaw to be traded after it was clear he was not trying to face mask or that want to be rid of Shanny, you need to go get a new hobby and life. Neither failed today. It was just bad luck.
Current Playoff Record: 2-1
Next up: The NFL draft and resigning key pieces of our team.
Offseason needs: Resign the big ones, let the others walk, and draft a DT, CB, and OL.
EDIT1: And given the recent concern surrounding Brock, we might have to take a flyer on Tom Brady.
