Not a surprise. Kinda expected it might go this way. Close first game of the season. Penalties killed it.
There's no comeback in that torrential rain late in the game. Late INT by Lance was killer

Brutal loss to a bad team. A bad team that could have the worst WR corp in the league.
The Greenlaw facemask penalty was bad by him (he had a rough game) in helping the Bears extend that drive, but the dropped easy INT right after by Gipson was very bad, too. Got to make that play when you have a team struggling like the Bears were. Should Gipson even have been in there over Odom or Moore?
And then there were the penalties overall...horrible showing there.
Lance, he did some good things and some not so good things. Kept some plays alive with his feet, hit some downfield passes, competed well. Nice passes to Aiyuk & Jenkins downfield! Would have liked to see him hit Kroft in the 1st Half for what could have been a long TD. Not a good pick later in the 2nd Half in his own territory. I like how he can extend plays with his feet...I do not like seeing him taking those hits he did when he takes off running where you have big defenders hitting him hard and then falling on top of him.
Let's see how Lance, the team, and Kyle for that matter responds in Week 2 vs. Seattle.

Anybody else worried that Jeff Wilson Jr. is the #2? He hasn't looked good in any of his last few outings even going back to last season.

This ain't Lance's fault. Penalties at the absolute worst times. Fumble by Deebo. Drops. When Elijah went out, why not bring in Mason Jordan after Wilson ain't doing crap? Why not bring in Danny Gray and take the top off and/or go deep? Too friggin' conservative

He did. He'll need to learn from that.
Every QB has done this at some point, especially early in their starting careers. The key for Lance is to file it away and move past it.

Go look at the colts thread last season. Everyone wanted Jimmy benched and said we weren't making the playoffs blah blah blah.
Games like this one you can clearly see aren't a great indicator of our future. It stopped raining for the bears 2 touchdown drives and started pouring down when it was our turn. You can't make that up, even in a movie, it would sound too unrealistic.
Penalties have to get fixed. The refs did us no favors and Trey needs to be better situationally.

Trey is not running routes and not getting open and Trey is not letting bears defenders into the backfield play after play also Trey is not calling b******t plays. This was a complete team meltdown. Poor coaching poor execution and s**tty discipline. They keep making bone head plays and we can expect to see more losses like today. Our defense is only good for the fiirst half then blow coverage and penalties. Not good.
It's not all his fault but he wasn't good today. Missed a wide open touchdown by about ten yards, threw a critical INT and gunned a final fourth down pass into the crowd. He wasn't good at all but neither was most of the team. Other than Hufanga and a few others, the whole team and the coaching staff hold responsibility for this loss.
The team should have been up by 21 at half. The offense looked just terrible. In my opinion, one of the worst Shanahan gameplan in his entire time as HC. He called ot like he had no faith in trey, and I don't blame him

Shanahan overthought the keeping it simple for Lance, and the defense in the 3rd quarter really shot themselves over and over and it snowballed.
Lots to fix for next week's game. QB is low on the list.
This loss isn't all on Lance, but if you think he isn't in the top 5 reasons for the loss, then you are either a gigantic Lance homer, or you need to go re-watch the game. He's a rookie, he played like a rookie. the kid needs to take his lumps before we see what we have in him, so i hope Shanny lets him play the season and learn, but not in the top 5 reasons for the loss...come on man, open your eyes.

12 penalties for 99 yards and out comes "treyscuses" lmao get out of here.
Trey didn't play good by any stretch, but the entire team failed when they could have put this game away. Put Jimmy in there with the same penalties and the outcome is likely the same.
Take it on the chin and prepare for next week.

We punted 2 or 3 times in the 1st half before the blunt of the penalties came. Those punts should have been scores and we would have been up alot more by half. Shanny called a conservative game plan for Trey's benefit because he's "learning". This is what we're gonna have to deal with as Trey learns this year.
