Jimmy's passing yards are like his record. He really isn't responsible for either.

Imagine the 49ers facing Jimmy this Sunday if the Panthers made that trade.
We'd still be 6.5 points favorite and we'd still be talking about shutting them out.
Brock Purdy would also be our staring QB.
And we'd still be 6.5 point favorites and we'd still be talking about shutting them out.
Jimmy Garoppolo, Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield…..tomato, tamato

the fact you think those QBs are interchangeable actuallly tells me a lot about your football evaluation skills

Kyle Shanahan could make Baker Mayfield look just as good as JimmyG in this offense. If you can't see that, it tells me a lot about your football evaluation skills…

They're all bottom-half of the league starters. Jimmy in the 15-20 range. Baker and Darnold are in the 25-30 category, maybe worse. They're replacement-level players. Jimmy is slightly better than that.

The question is what happens to Jimmy if you take away the offensive genius masking his deficiencies and put him on a subpar offense. I think those three are closer than you think….
on the flip side, we know what Jimmy's ceiling is. Do we know what Baker Mayfield's is ? Could Kyle get more out of him ? Is he more mobile than Jimmy ? Does he have a stronger arm ? Willing to take more shots downfield? Open up the playbook ?
I'll stick with my original assessment for now. I think all 3 are easy substitutes for each other without a drop in play. But I do think Baker has more potential than Jimmy…

Sweet! You're predicting Kyle hangs on to a 10 point lead!
that's the FINAL score.. not 10 point lead going into the 4th QTR..

Let's give jimmy the equivalent of OTAs and PS, where he would have gotten two full months with his WRs, and see how he plays 3, 4, maybe 5 games from now. You just can't evaluate a guy right now who spent all his OTA, PS just trying to get his shoulder back in throwing shape but got NO time with his WRs. Let's look at this 5 games from now and hope the D can win a good chunk of the next 4 or 5 games with not much O input.
Last yr that wouldn't have happened…this yr? Yeah, well, there's that D thing…

Comeon now. You're throwing away every JimmyG start in recent memory and using this 3 game average showing as an aberration rather than a trend. We've seen this movie over and over. Jimmy wins if his defense and/or STs comes to play. Very rarely will he take the helm and will the team to memory (? NOrleans game 2019).
will he look better 4 weeks from now ? I don't know. Did he look better last year vs Indy, Houston, Dallas ? He is what he is. We know what his ceiling is. He's no better than Sam Darnold or Baker Mayfield. BUT….BUT…what if Kyle could unlock something in Baker's play. As I said, he's more mobile. Has a stronger arm. Definitely takes more chances and has the ability to open the playbook. What if Kyle could untap the mental aspect of his game ? Does he have a higher ceiling ? I would guess yes.
but at this point, they're all three the one and same. Piss poor game managers except one is playing on a SB caliber roster…

EXACTLY what I posted 2 weeks ago.. the fact that he wasn't even given a playbook, and how he was told that the team are going w/Lance.. that alone take you out mentally of being ready to play a game...
to make a long story short, if Grappy ain't all that while participating in all of the off season program, then what do you expect from him when he doesn't get those?
I mean, Kyle had all year to come up w/a Plan B if Lance gets injured, and he couldn't.. thank goodness Grappy agreed to stay humble and accept the 6mil..
