Literally all but 1 pick made the roster this year. Don't listen to Cowherd. He's a moron.

That's kind of twisting things to make the draft picks given up seem less important. Obviously the skill positions will be hard to crack as a rookie, but there's always a chance to upgrade depth whether it's OL, DB, or DL with those draft picks. Not having those picks will hurt but if CMC is a stud on the field then it's all worth it.

In the last two drafts we've picked 11 players in rounds 2-5 and Huf is the only one who isn't a backup-level player. Maybe Drake Jackson too... eventually.

What about Aaron Banks?

IMO Banks is a backup-level player that we have starting. He wouldn't start over Tomlinson.
But I'd be happy to be wrong about that one day.

Either way, point is that vast majority of 2nd to 5th rounders are backups so giving up 3-4 for CMC is a steal.

You do know that Banks has been a better run blocker as well as a better pass blocker than Tomlinson this season, right?

I am not arguing your second point as I agree with you. The draft is a crap shoot and we now have a proven commodity.

I just think that Banks has been getting an unfair shake just because he sat his rookie season. He has actually played well, especially as a pass protector.

Yes, I'm very aware of that. 6 games just isn't enough for me. Kyle's routinely gotten amazing play out of replacement level offensive lineman for relatively short stretches. Brunskill and Compton regularly have stretches of great play that you wouldn't expect from someone of their salary level.

For example, if Brunskill got paid just on his performance during Rams games he'd be one of the highest paid offensive lineman in the league.

6 games isn't enough for you to admit and believe he's played well and can actually be good but I bet if he struggled he's an automatic trash pick in his 1st year starting after 6 games
Lombardi trophy confirmed.

Is the running back bringing a center and a guard with him?

Center is the real issue. We need a starting caliber DB. We need depth at DT with AA/Kin basically out for multiple weeks.

Yes they could get very players at center, OG, CB, RB etc and pay them less

Brunskill is probably the worsed player to reference for this. He has been moved around so much in his career that its hard to get a gauge on him. Also, look at Laken's playoff performance last season and tell me he was worth the money that the jets paid him. You said Banks wouldn't start over Tomlinsin. We litterally let him walk and put Banks in his place. 😅

Also, you can only judge players by their body of work. While Banks sample size may not be large, its all we have to go by at this point.

Why take a roster spot for a look or two

Wow, that's sweet

Lets say we sign him next year for a "team friendly" $8m. Who do we cut loose?
I'm on my 12th hour of work right now so i may be dumb at the moment but is he the biggest name we've ever traded for? Like trading for a player, not the draft pick to choose the player

And for a player that is currently elite. Mccaffrey is currently arguably the best back in football when healthy

Trent Williams is the most recent star caliber player that I can remember

I'm still pretty upset all we gave up for him, we basically gave them a Pettis, Sermon, wishnowsky and a Joe Williams

It would be a restructure which will basically be converting cash into a signing bonus to give him GTD cash and letting SF prorate it.

who do you have to cut loose? I'm not following…there's guys who can also get restructured to lower the cap like Fred. Armstead can have cash moved around. Extending Bosa could lower his cap hit in 2023 as well.

Or Deebo, Warner, Kittle, Burford…all depends on who you want to chose

all that said the draft is a crap shoot.

They can redo McCaffrey, Trent, Warner, AA, & Kittle to save cap room in 2023, with minimal issues down the road, if any TBH.

Bosa will get an extension with a low 2023 & 2024 cap numbers, like Deebo has low 2022 & 2023 cap numbers.

I think we have an out on AAs contract end of this year or next, so maybe an entire restructure for him
Why 9ers traded for CMC 🤣
