Good win after a slow start to the game. The defense, after giving up an early touchdown, really bailed out the offense and their miscues (Aiyuk fumble, two '3 & outs'). It was a bit frustrating watching the offense look predictable, but they grinded it out and wore down LAC's defense. Eli Mitchell played very well and on a night CMC didn't look very good rushing, it was nice to have Eli handle many of the between the tackles runs. The combination of Eli and CMC has the potential to be the best in the league. Another 0 turnover game from Jimmy, another win - this is the recipe.
I think the chargers shot themselves in the foot repeatedly on offense. Drops and missed opportunities kept us in the game.

I really can't make your comparison work in my head, if I'm being realistic and honest with myself. We have a pretty healthy offense stacked with all-pros and when they were clicking they were lighting us up with nobodies.
I'm happy we won, but I'm worried that they were able to shave 2 ypc off their season average on D.
I do still think LAC is a better than average team even with the players they're suiting up now.

I'm sorry I disagree with that. The Chargers were dropping like flies during the game and were already dead from injuries prior to the game. They are not better than average in their current state and again they were dropping like flies in the game and we still could only muster plus 3 till the end.

The way I see it is it's a bad rule that was instituted for good reasons. I understand the need to protect players but there needs to be some common sense applied. Players can't just suddenly change direction at the speed they're moving once they make a commitment to tackle a player. In Herbert's case he didn't even slide. I can see a 15 yard penalty if they think it's warranted but ejecting a player when it obviously wasn't an intentional hit to try and injure a player is just wrong. That's where I hate this rulke. It leaves the decision uo to a couple of guys looking at replays who may or may not have a bias. The intention of the rule was to stop spearing, not unintentional contact with the helmet.
Bad rule.
I like all your points and I agree with them. However, the risk of having a player crippled or worse is the over-riding factor. I'm sure the NFL believes it's not worth the risk, if the play was unintentional or not.

I was going to say the same thing. We thoroughly dominated them the second half and still left points off the board. All this doomsday talk doesn't make sense to me. Not every game is going to be perfect and the Chargers played their butts off.

The chargers forum is filled with "we did damn good considering we had practice squad players all over the field"

I think he is pointing out some of the following that some are overlooking to fit the critical narrative:
Aiyuk fumble (led to 3 points)
Aiyuk dropped TD
Gould missed extra point
Blocked punt (led to 3 points)
Greenlaw Personal Foul and ejection (led to 3 points)
McGlinchey holding penalties (not sure I remember a single holding called on Chargers)

moral win for them, moral loss for us
what a weird game
I wonder how Bills fans are feeling right now ?
from arguably the best team and QB in the league to falling to 3rd in their division in a 24 hour span.
ouch

I just hear Colin Cowherd say that SF looked rusty in the first half. It's funny how whenever a team comes off a bye and runs over the other team it's because of the extra week of rest and practice. When they struggle it's because they were rusty.
Bye's are a big reason if you play well and a powerful excuse when you don't.

We were definitely rusty and I'm glad we finally woke up second half. I still say we better have a contingency plan if our run game isn't working…What type of passing plays that will cater to JG!

Fans are saying we couldn't dominate a depleted team but we actually did, Just not on the scoreboard. We had about 150 more yards than the Chargers. Mistakes, Special teams, and the inability to punch the ball in when in the red zone made the game closer than it should have been. Chargers had about 240 total yards on offense and 80 of them came on the opening drive. And for us we had about 400 yards in total offense. A couple of extra TD's while down inside their 10 and Gould doesn't miss that extra point and we don't get the punt blocked, This looks like an 18 point win. Aiyuk dropped a TD pass and Mitchell tripped on another one.

For sure. I was just talking about that! A TD from Aiyuk would've been ugly for the Chargers.

The chiefs lost to a worse, more decimated colts team this season. It's the NFL. Weird s**t happens. I'll take the W!

Strategically I like how they went to the pistol formation to get more of a downhill running game to control the clock towards the end of the game
And
To not force Jimmy Garoppolo in a compromising position play after play expecting him to win the game.
This was equally an overall team effort win
